Been done before, I know, but I want to get a peltier, and some acryllic.
I want to get a CPU heatsink, and use it as a base for a project. I want to make a cuboid drinks cooler, with the sides acryllic, etched. A peltier with a CPU heatsink at the bottom, and one of the new LED Message fans at the top, taking the air out.

Bad idea?

What's the best way of joining acryllic like that? And where do I find a mains transformer that powerful?

Would it be better to get one of those CPU heatsinks that has heat pipes, so it can take the heat out of under the cooler?

What sort of watts do you think? Would 34W cut it, or should I go over 80w?

Thanks, Josh.

I'm not entirely sure what your making, I think that's a pretty poor explanation. However I understood the CPU cooler part and I very much doubt it will work, heatsinks wont go very much below room temperature, nor would water cooling. You could cool down a cup of tea/coffee (not that you'd want to!) but you wont get the 3c or so for chilled water or coke etc.

I think what he means is that he'll use a peltier to cool his drink and the heatsink to remove the heat from the hot side of the peltier. What I don't think the OP understands is how much heat he will need to remove and the fact that I've never seen a peltier that has worked with air cooling (they have all been watercooled).

Cheers,
Stephen

I would use one of them Mini fridges which you can buy these days as a base. They all usually use an air cooled peltier set up inside them. :)

Thanks for the replys. I have a mini fridge, but you cant use it as a cup coaster.

I basicly want to copy this:
