Helloooo

Recently I left my job because I'm having a rethink about my life and what I want out of it, I have always loved video editing but only thought of it as a hobby, recently I've been thinking why not make a career out of it...
I have no qualification for it so I could go to college night classes for the sake of a qualification if needs be.

After hearing a perfect song for a 300 trailer I decided to go about it and play around a bit.

Everything in the video I picked out of the film except the words, so I tried to make it as hard as possible for me meaning I had to choose what should go where in time with the music.

Basically have a watch and let me know what you think, I know 300 trailers have been done to death but once I got started I couldn't stop myself.
And if there are any professional video editors out there plenty of input would be useful regarding getting a job in that area and with the video itself.

I'm going to try some more anyway but for now could you see what you think :)

Looks pretty good, all I can say is don't overuse the slow-down effects (for want of a better word).

As for a job, it's always about previous experience. No one will give you a proper job in the field without previous experience. And the only way to get it is through voluntary work in that area, or at least low paid work.

Also make the most of the tools your given, and don't complain about the tools your given. IE. if your given a Mac to work on (which you most likely will) and you don't like them, tough. If your a given a Sony Camera to use, and your on a vendetta againt Sony (like me :p), then again, tough. You use what your given or don't take the job.

Hope it helped :)

The trailers good... couple of little bits where the timing could be a little tighter to the music but overall well done.

What you need to decide though is if you want to do editing or camera work. If editing is what you love then it's a harder world to get into but still possible.

Option 1: Your best bet is to start low down... try getting an apprenticeship or trainee position at a post production house making the tea kinda job! (hint some colleges have there own production departments). Get hold of a copy of final cut/avid/premier and play around. And go from there. The AV world is very much REAL LIFE experienced based. People want to know what you HAVE done... not what you've been taught how to do.

Option everythig else: Find a small AV company or duplicators that dabble with video editing for clients. You'll get to do a lot more but possibly not learn or gain as many skills.

Finally expect long days... silly hours and low pay to begin with!

Not trying to paint a bleak picture because it's not but don't expect everything super fast there's a massive difference between fiddling at home and producing a tv program!

I would like to state that I am no expert in vid editing not my speciality. Not artistic enough! :p

ps.. @ nicky... sony camera bodys with canon lenses are pretty much the industry standard now :p
