hey, ive been running vista 64 bit for the past few months and ive been running norton 360 on it. after this peroid of time ive come to despise symantec and all its employees.

therefore i was wondering... is there another GOOD internet security suite which has a anti virus and anti spyware thatll run on vista 64?

if so please say quick! symantec has me at the end of my tether.

AVG Free

Its free (duh)

If your behind a router, you don't need a software firewall due to the hardware firewall on the router (I'd leave Windows Firewall turned on just in case for outbound protection + anything dodgy on your local network).

Thats the cheapest and most low-resource hungry solution. And it will work a lot better than Norton.

firewall - built in one plus decent router

av - tried kaspersky, bit heavy in my view, now use avg with the annoying green ticks etc in ie7 (can't turn them off without avg moaning about them being turned off )

spyware - isn't the built in one any good

Software firewalls and [home] hardware firewalls don't quite do the same job - so it's not such a bad idea to have both. I always loved the application-level control that something like Sygate Personal Firewall brought over the simple network/transmission-level firewalling that you'll find in 99% of home hardware router/firewalls.

Just a shame Sygate got nuked when it was bought-out. :(

That said, I think the Windows Firewall has got better in Vista.. So maybe 3rd party stuff just isn't required any longer - I'm probably out of date.

The best av software I have used was nod32. Did a really good job and was totaly unobtrusive. It is a pau for software though but imo worth every penny.

AVG always feels a bit too much of a memory hog

I'm on nod32 here and working a treat. On a side note.. liacence is by machine not by OS :) I have a 2 user copy... on for lappy on xp and one for desktop on xp and vista64

Bit of a fan of KAV, seems to integrate and play nicely with XP and Vista 64bit

Yeah... Kaspersky IS (http://usa.kaspersky.com/products_services/internet-security.php) - which supports Vista 64bit (as Westy suggests), has been getting lots of good reviews

No but use Windows Defender built into Vista, that will do it fine.
