... at a price!
Laptops could soon be getting a multi-threaded boost from Intel’s first mobile Core 2 Quad CPU later this year...
Apparently called the Core 2 Extreme QX9300, the 45nm chip is alleged to have 12MB of Level 2 cache, a 1,066MHz front side bus and will run at a clock speed of 2.53GHz. Despite this, though the maximum TDP will be just 45W.
Of course, Intel’s Extreme chips have a reputation for costing a small fortune, and the QX9300 will be no exception.
DigiTimes claims to have spoken to motherboard manufacturers who say that the chip will cost $1,038 (£512) each to laptop makers...
and that’s in trays of 1,000 units as well..
