Im thinking about buying vista home premium 32bit just before i get my upgrade this is what im getting.

Intel Core 2 Duo E2140 1.61Ghz (will be overclocked)
Asus Maximus Formula
OCZ 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400, 800 MHz, Reaper HPC Edition

Just wondering will it run smoothly with this spec and are there any problems with vista home premium 32bit.

Thanks for you time.

It's more a factor of what peripherals you are going to be using....

(Oh, did you consider 64bit?)

That spec would work fine, Must peripherals made in the last year or two have vista drivers of some sort, but always double check.

As people have said above it will be fine. Any Core Duo processor and 2GB RAM will do the job.

What GPU you going to get ?? all the fancy aero interface does require a medium card and if you want to play fps games you will probably need a fairly decent card

As a reference I've just done this with 64bit vista ultimate (wanted everything :)) and my thread on my experiences and peoples suggestions are here (http://forums.kustompcs.co.uk/showthread.php?t=44516). And I agree completely with Westy5 in that its more the peripherals than the hardware that causes issues.

Personally i wouldn't even consider 32bit unless its in desperation now, 64bit is the future of windows and its programs so you might as well start early.

In terms of hardware - not a problem there and as long as you have a graphics card above geforce 6xxx you should be able to use aero glass (my 6150 manages the effects but obviously is useless for games). Asus should have the drivers in 64bit as the board is a newish one.

32bit software generally runs smoothly (couple of minor program issues - see thread above) but most of the common home user type programs are fine.

quite a lot of Wireless KB/Mouse work without the software (not all) but you probably wont be able to configure them without the software.

yes with a separate license :D although it might be a bit tough on the cpu and you could really do with 2GB of ram although I suppose the turbocache (flash memory) could be used if need be.

As to the keyboard and mouse - get new ones, you know you want to :D

unless you're buying the rather overpriced retail edition you will need a new license for the new rig as the hardware is being changed (more specifically the motherboard) and this constitutes a new pc (unless the other dies on you). Its in the T&C's of the oem editions. And if you do upgrade then a reinstall is highly recommended by most people including me.

As to keyboard - think I'd go g15 due to the lcd display (I like them for cpu temps etc)

Hmmmm i think i might just buy it and let it sit there for a couple of weeks :( im buying the OEM.

retail is insanely expensive so theres no way around the T&C

thanks for your reply :D

G15 has my vote, would be lost without CPU load and memory load display. its probably the only way to find out how hard your CPU and memory is being pushed ingame.

things are changing all the time due to drivers but anything upto 30% drop (at 1280x1024) in performance has been seen.

Ultimate has more features, but unless you actually need or want those features there's no reason I can think of to buy it over Home Premium.
