The Optimus Maximus is probably the most expensive mainstream keyboard ever made...

Looks like a regular Keyboard eh? No those are not bits of coloured paper stuck to the keys, they are in-fact OLED LCD Screens similar to the new generation of LCD Screens becoming available.
These tiny screens and keys are completely re-programmable to display anything you like, including images.

The downside to this however is the £700 price tag, but this does open the door for for the future of programmable Keyboards.

Have they announced the lifetime expectancy of the OLED screens yet?
aww they cheaped out, a square single display on the larger keys = crap in my opinion :( it looked better in concept and i thin they should have kept it that way, it looks a bit tacky now :S :( and for 700 quid!!! i'd expect it to be nigh on perfect lol

Well i would personally prefer that small one over a Long strip type bar, what could you put in a rectangle that would not look stretched and wrong?

FAQ (here for the blind... !) (http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/faq/) gives figures of 20,000 hours. Roughly 5-6 years at 9 to 10 hours use a day. It also says they keys will begin to dim after this time, not just die instantly, plus keys will be available individually for replacement.
If only I had 700 quid spare
I just realised that Videos play at 10FPS on each key! thats higher than i realised. this could make for some interesting key layouts :D
I think if you store whatever the keys are playing on the SD card in the board, they can manage much more than 10fps. Just that the SD card supplied is only 32 meg which holds the basic profiles. Stick a couple of gig in and see wat it can do !
That is awesome, but for 700 notes in can be somebody elses awesome.

Looks great, new sort of keyboard, maybe in the not too distant future you'll be able to get these far cheaper, maybe £80 - 100, but until then who the hell's gonna pay that much for one?

i Agree, it opens the door.
A Lot of people have £700+ to spend on a fancy KB. i mean what better way to show off! Hey Look! even my keyboard shows you how wealthy i am!

All to Bill Gates family!!
if i had the cash right now i would preorder one, the only problem i could forsee is not being able to feel the keys before i bought it.

But Forthy, think what this could do for your e-peen! :p
My IRL-peen will be sufficient for any waving contests required, tbh.
[edit] if that doesn't make it into someone's sig I might actually cry.
Did someone say something?
:p
i would quote that but it kinda makes me feel small so i wont.
Ahem.......
You rule breaker you! *shakes fist*
:D
everyone should suck up to Forthy. It makes him feel good about himself, and that makes the forums a nicer place !!!
Possibly the only logical successor to my trusty G15.
Anything less would be a step backwards.
