I bought one of these http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3869.html enclosures. I installed the eSata plate and connected to my motherboard, Gigabyte GA-965G-DS3. When I use the eSata cable the hard drive is not shown in my computer. Works fine with the USB cable but I would like to get the eSata working.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Have you got your motherboard sata drivers properly installed? You'll need them to hot-swap SATA drives, and you may be running on generic ones.

using the JMicron pots - if do is the controller enabled in the BIOS?
If you are hotplugging have you got AHCI enabled?

ACHI was disabled in BIOS. When I enabled it the computer would not boot into windows. I am very new to SATA drives so please bear with me

Visit your mobo manufacturer's website, and download/install the latest SATA drivers from there.

Whilst they're downloading... have a read of post number 6 [in particular] on here (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=85566), to see if the advice offered provides some insight/applies in your case?

I've checked on Gigabyte's website and the only SATA drivers I can see are for SATA Raid.

for AHCI you need to install in AHCI mode F6ing the drivers - you can't just switch the controller mode after installing in IDE mode.
Anyway are you running the eSATA off the Gigabyte/JMicron controller ports (purple)?

ps looking at my earlier post it looks like I really need to replace this kb sooner rather than later :o

I dont think I used the purple ports, I think I used the orange one but I will check later on.
