Kustom Pcs Forum - Can't you just feel the love? I'm not picking on anyone or being inflammatory with this question but : Why has this forum recently turned into some kind of flame jamboree? There are those of us that read this forum avidly knowing that there will always be a useful bit of advice or a review that is helpful but lately every time I read a thread it seems to degenerate into useless toss and dreck. Don't get me wrong I like a bit of pedantry and facetiousness to while away the time but lately it's absurd.
Pedance is not a word.
Pedantry is what you are looking for.

Pedance is not a word.
You're right. 'Pedant' is though. . .:D

Good recovery!
LOL!
Thanks, not bad for a sunday morning! :p
Ok, I stand corrected. I hope you get the gist of my post though.
There is a large number of members here who try and help people (such as yourself), a number of them are sick to death of trying to interpret technical questions written using one long paragraph with no punctuation, text speak, and the lack of use of the shift key.
Also a number of older members (such as myself) are very loyal to the boys at Kustom and will not stand for blatant rule breaking, angry responses, and links to competitors sites.
Then there are the "Spammers", members who post without reading the whole thread or post a response with no relation to the thread.
I tend to reply to these transgressions by "Taking the mick" in the hope that the poster will see the error of his ways. Sometimes I get a nasty reply so I take a deep breath and take even more "Mick" in response.
Some members feel its OK to castigate a "Noob" with "Google it fool" (paraphrased) which sometimes elicits an angry response and starts the flaming.
Lately it seems we have a lot of new members who do not bother to read the rules even after they are warned, the mods do a great job of keeping the peace without being over aggressive but the sheer number of new people who do not bother to learn forum etiquette make this seem like a much larger problem than it actually is.

I've never understood people who reply with 'google it'.
If you google something the replies you get are not always helpful. If I want to know something I'd much rather go somewhere where I know like-minded people can give me answers usually backed up by real-life experience.
This, in many peoples minds is what a forum is for! As long-term forum members and mods, these people are associated with Kustom Pcs in the minds of newer members and guests. Surely it's better for people to give advice where they can, ignore the members who irritate and for some to stop picking on people and leave the moderating to the mods?

I personally always have a good Google before going to a forum to ask a question.
It's more out of respect than anything. Why bother people when the answer is usually right in front of me. Having said that, I like the idea that you can ask on a forum and the question and answer will be there for others as a resource.
Think in the end, if you've thought about a question well enough, then you've probably already had a Google and if that hasn't worked, you'll come to the forums and ask. And as the issue will probably be important it's logical that you should set it out in a way that is easy to read and gets the point across.
However, not all users do this, hence one reason for the "flame jamboree" :)

I only joined this forum because it was where I found the answer to a problem that I had googled. It was in the first page of answers on google and the answer was there because a forum member had replied to a question. It's kind of a catch 22 situation, I guess.

I found Kustom PCs in the exact same way :)
Think it's the respect to other users that's probably the key here. Respect another and they'll respect you.

Indeed, I do feel it OK to suggest that somebody Googles first, rather than just being sheer lazy and asking to be spoon fed the answer.
If people cannot be polite enough to start by saying 'I've Googled, I understand this bit, but some other random bit confuses me, then I will help as much as I can.
If you start a thread 'How do I do this...'. Then I feel free to suggest the mighty Google first.
It's not just people who don't use google first, it's the ones who also don't use the forum search.
Personally, if I am stuck I will google as many different search terms as I can think of and then if I still don't find an answer, will post on hear. But I will try and show what info I have gathered thus far, as well as carefully thinking about the question I am asking.
Like Tami said, there are a lot of new members who ignore the rules and post complete rubbish. The old-timers can only put up with this for so long before gets very tedious and the responses coming back start to get a little sharp.
Cheers,
Stephen
what i find annoying is people who post questions that has been answered 100 times before on this very forum never mind google.for example "I want to mod my case! Which direction should i turn the screwdriver?"
What also annoys me is people who start a thread like:
"I have 1000 to spend! Now build me a PC!"
As if its our JOB to do the research for other people. i like to help people as do we all but we don't want to help those that cannot/don't try to help them selfs.

I agree that Google doesn't always provide the answers... or at least provide them in a language which can be understood to somebody new to whatever it is they're Googling for.
But it would help prevent replies which suggest "Googling", if the OP informed us in their post, that he/she has already Googled, but didn't find/couldn't understand, what they'd found on the subject in question... and wanted advice from forum members who've had/have 'real-life' experience on the subject.
Surely it's better for people to give advice where they can, ignore the members who irritate and for some to stop picking on people and leave the moderating to the mods?
But if nobody says anything to such members, they'll continue in the same 'irritating' manner, assuming - since nobody has said anything, that their manner is acceptable?
And quite often, even if it is a MOD/Super-MOD who advises them otherwise... it's seen as "nit-picking", or we're using our status to "pick on" them, however well intended the advice offered?
"Catch 22" indeed!
I have a great deal of sympathy for people who come on the forum to ask questions instead of googling it. As part of a forum you are asking your fellow members for information rather than an impersonal search engine and you therefore get the chance to interact with others - as well as an answer to your question.
On the side of the "google it fool" brigade, I have to admit it is sometimes deserved - as is the exhortation to "use the SEARCH button".
A couple of years ago, there was a rash of "what monitor should I get" threads, often one on top of the other in the Hardware forum - people literally starting new threads with an existing one staring them in the face. It did finally dissolve into a flame war with everyon fed up with it.
I would fall slightly on the side of question makers.
