Finally... something promising from the ATI stable!

The AMD RV670 is built on a new 55nm process technology... and adds Quad-GPU(!) - plus DirectX 10.1 support.

Coupling the RV670 with the also upcoming RD790 chipset will provide a compelling platform for gamers - if the performance of the GPU lives up to the claims.

AMD is also indicating that they have optimized the RD790 chipset for multi-GPU configurations including 2-way, 3-way and 4-way setups.
DirectX 10.1 support:

Perhaps the most surprising information from AMD about RV670, is the fact that it is going to be the first DX10.1 compliant hardware -- something the upcoming NVIDIA hardware can't claim.

More info about AMD's CrossFireX - or 'quad-Crossfire' has emerged.

First, it looks like this: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d40/DavyDuncan1955/PC%20Hardware/Graphics%20Cards/AMDsCrossFireXQuad-Crossfire.jpg

Second, the connectors - as you can see, need only one to go between cards, unlike what they have now, where two are needed.
This in effect gives them a lot more headroom, allowing even more-way CrossFire if need, or more likely if there is ever a board that has the PCIe2 lanes.Read [a little] more here (http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/11/02/crossfirex).

Whilst on the subject of multiple graphics cards... here's a pic of what Nvidia's upcoming 'Tri-SLI' looks like (courtesy of TH): http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d40/DavyDuncan1955/PC%20Hardware/Graphics%20Cards/Tri-SLI.jpg

Haha,

That Tri-SLI looks like some poor joke, the bottom card looks ready to fall out of the board.

Imagine the power consumption of those beasts

i agree with Dark here.. first thing i noticed was the third slot of nvidias gpu's. That won't look too stable in an actual PC rig... just another 400 odd going down the drain if that snaps.

wouldn't there be a small problem with bottleneck though :s
