This news post is 2 days old but I thought it was worth posting because a i am sure a lot of people will soon have HD TV’s and will want to stream their HD Content over Wireless.

IBM and MediaTek Inc. today launch a joint initiative to develop ultra fast chipsets that can wirelessly transmit a full-length high definition movie to and from a home PC, hand-held device, retail kiosk or television set nearly as fast as a viewer can push their remote control. The new technology will allow consumers to rid their homes of the cumbersome wires needed to connect their HD-TVs to set top boxes and allow the placement of devices anywhere that is convenient, instead of having to organize furniture and other accessories around technology. Both companies will combine their expertise in millimeter wave (mmWave) radio technology — the highest frequency portion of the radio spectrum where massive amounts of information can be sent quickly — and digital chipsets to create revolutionary multimedia wireless products.

The large bandwidth for data transmission available at the mmWave frequency band enables at least 100 times higher data rates than current Wi-Fi standards. For example, you could upload a 10 gigabyte file in five seconds with the new technology versus 10 minutes using current Wi-Fi technology. mmWave wireless technology can be widely used at home and office for applications such as multimedia content downloads or uncompressed HDTV streaming from your DVD player. You could wirelessly download and synchronize iPod-like devices with music and videos in seconds. If they really succeed to develop something like that, it will be a start of a small revolution…

Now the important question, Will we soon have HDD’s that can write that fast? I doubt it.

hmm, possibly with SSDs.

Anyone who uses wireless with HD doesn't deserve to be able to though :p

I just want it to look aesthetically pleasing having no wires running from the htpc to my minimalist flat screen so it truly looks as if the tv is just floating on the wall. They also need to develop the wireless power supply further.

God the technological 21st century is going to have so much wireless interference and electrons streaming in the air we are all going to get cancer.

We already are. :)

meh IMO cancer is natural mutation and therefore leads to evolution the only flaw being it is localised mutation so unlikely to allow for mutated offspring, which conflicts with my own theory and thus I am wrong and right at the same time. :D

That actually made sense. Ah, being drunk is a wonderful thing :)

i'd love to see you say that if it was killing you, or a close one. we all have cancer cells its just a question of something 'setting them off' as it were.

HD's... SSD's... and no one has made a joke about STD's... I am disapointed in you lot. Not on the ball tonight.
Back on topic though, this would be quite a good idea, doesn't Sky offer a wireless transmitter box so that you can watch the same channel on multipul television sets with only one account?

My granddad, my godfather and several of my parents Family friends have had cancer or died from it. I live with life I have crap genes my family has a history of muscular distrophy, glycoma, dental problems (the men in our family have a reverse canine that grows upwards rather then down), over-flexible joints and a mild form of hemophilia.

Do I care no, live life on the edge especially if your going to turn into a blind man in a wheel chair dying from severe blood loss, its just natures way of saying "whoopsy, got it wrong unlucky chap and maybe next time your children's children will have laser beams as eyes:rolleyes:"

That's an interesting take on genetic theory! You been watching too much Heroes by any chance.

It could also be natures way of trying to stop the proliferation of non-advantageous genes, and that we are perpetuating disease and prolonging suffering of yesterdays, todays and tommorrows generations...

Don't take this the wrong way salty, I mean no offence, but under any other circumstances (eg our current state of medical knowledge and public availability) I'm guessing your bloodline would have died out a long time ago, and you wouldn't be here, thus making the human gene pool stronger and more resilliant. That list of problems is to me nature's way of trying to tell you something... or at least drop a hint. We are in some ways denying our own evolution by trying to overcome the things that will overall make the gene pool stonger.
Now i know that sounds harsh but I'm making a point, not trying to offend.

I don't mind, as I said originally I don't care if my genes are screwed I am still alive and there may be a higher chance of me being a problematic medical patient but there is also the minute chance that I will be flawless.

I am forbidden to play contact sports due to me having A) hyper-flexibility means I am more likely to break a joint or snap some ligaments b) hemophilia a bruise has the potential to kill me even if the chance is only small . I don't care though no point living in cotton wool and have played rugby for the last 10 years :D
