The long awaited Service Pack 1 for Windows latest operating system, Vista, has been unleashed onto a select few thousand ( between 10 and 15 thousand ) beta testers. The hope is, of course, to iron out any problems before releasing it full scale via the Windows Update service at the start of next year.
One of the testers, who has been running a blog detailing his adventures with "The Windows Experience", has noted some improvements already, claiming speedier file copying and resuming from hibernation and increased battery life on his laptop.
However, it seems that the search option has been removed from the Start Menu ( not the tiny search bar at the bottom of the programs list, but the actual Search option on the right of the menu ). The reason for this is to allow the user to choose which desktop search utility they want to use, rather than being forced to use the included one.
No word yet on whether the oft criticized driver problems, specifically relating to running games, has been improved.
