Hi!

I have a strange problem with MS Vista Business. MS Support has not found a solution in two days. So before reinstalling it I thought some of you may have some insights!

I have Vista Business (from msdn subscription). Yesterday I had to remove Office 2007 and install Office 2003 for some Vista development issue. Then it asked me to reboot the computer. The problem started after I rebooted.

It gave me an error message that my copy of vista is not genuine and gave me a choice to reactivate. However reactivation gave an error 0xC004F008 and asked that I may contact MS support by phone if I wish. So I called them up. after waiting for 3 hours talking to different departments I seemed to have right person on the line.

He tried a lot of things:

* Gave me a new Serial Number but the system failed to take it.

* Asked me to activate by telephone but it failed too.

* Went to Limited mode in vista reactivation screen, got the ie browser open, brought up the windows explorer and tried to run slmgr to extend the subscription by 30 days. That also failed with the command saying that "Not enough quota is available...". It would not let me run any external commands. BTW: I have 20GB of disk free.

* Finally they asked me to put the actual dvd and do a repair... that also failed miserably.

* Lastly we went to the onecare site to run a detailed virus check. We tried to do a full system scan... however after 20 mins of so it logs me out (full-scan is not finished yet) and I have to log in and start from scratch. I suspect this may be another vista feature so that people cannot even run IE for a long time without activation :-)

I guess I have one option of reinstalling vista on the computer after backing up my files. But then I have to reinstall all programs again...

Anything else you can think of?

Thanks
Jojobar

Clutching at straws, but I'd maybe do a memory check with a suitable tool (memtest86) just to alay my fears.

reinstall takes 40 mins, Not 3 hours on the phone. :)

Office 03 is 4 years old and not designed for vista, probably caused some problems uninstalling the latest office and installing the older version.

Although, FWIW, using 03 here on Vista without any problems. But then, I didn't do an install of the latest and then downgrade - I put it on 'fresh' so to speak.
