View Full Version : Space Cube - super tiny PCs
Essay @ Kustom

Measuring around 2 inch x 2 inch x 2.2 inch ( and the smaller 2 x 2 x 1.8 inch variant ), these Space Cube units are surely the smallest feature packed computers around. Boasting ports for a monitor, serial connection, USB, microphone, Ethernet, flash memory and a proprietary connection for "Space Wire" and a CPU capable of 300mhz they are certainly not as diminutive as they look.

A screen! Pah, you're not thinking large enough. Basically, you want a device that outputs braille on a small 2"x2" surface...then go learn braille...and voila! you can run it in your pocket, without needing to take it out!
What OS can you use that would run well on 300Mhz?

I'm curious as to what they're going to punt them out for - anyone seen mention of a price?
Funky as they are, I'm trying to think of anything practical I could use one for... and having difficulties :)

I think thats a blindin' idea!
They would be ideal for people who just want to word process, surf the net occassionally, and look at photos. i.e. a portion of the existing market.
Although, I can't see everyone wanting one I have been waiting for nano ITX for ages. Good to see they're finally here. Now PLEASE don't let it crash and burn like BTX.

hmm, interesting, but I fail to see the niche really. Sure, some people only want to use the internet and email, but 300MHz won't do that unless they use Linux :p

It did fine as a P2/3 thank you very much Jacob. Besides - with flash memory and a USB HDD, you could have it as any number of combinations of dedicated servers. Music, video playback, email server, web server (although 300MHz might make it hurt) general storage etc etc...
If they are only between £100-£200 squids I will seriously consider investing in one! Anything above £300 you may as well get a lap top though.

Fit the PC on your 8800!
Exactly! only you may need a new PSU. be aware though, your 8800 will run 3 times faster than the PCS CPU.
