Sad news, but the long awaited Spore has slipped into EA's fiscal year 09 plan. No solid news as to why, but plenty of speculation.

That's a real shame. This looked like one of those rare things that comes along only so often these days - originality :(

One of the few games I was looking forward to. Oh well.

The article raises one good point, which is that, from what I've seen out there on the 'net in the form of E3 videos and so forth, it's hard to understand exactly what is delaying this.

I can't believe they'd hold the game up for 2 more years purely to do a consolidated release onto more than one platform - a PC release ASAP would mean some funds into the coffers, and would de-risk the game from the chance of becoming "out-dated" should things progress significantly in 2 years (or a competitor released something similar ahead of them).

More reasons to hate EA... blimey, they're heading for my Sony book I tell you :)

I reminds me of Lionhead's "The Movies"....basically, too ambitious to ever become a reality... ( at least in the way imagined from the pre-release hype ).

There is likely some fundamental flaws with Spore, something in the way each area ( monster creation, RTS style bit etc ) play with each other, that they need to rethink.

I was really looking forward to this, particularly on DS. The worry for that is that by 2009 there might be a DS2/whatever, whereas with PC it'll always be there.

Ahh its simply media hype seen with so many games, in actual fact in terms of a real 'game' there's probably not much been completed well or they've not realised the full depth and scope of the job.

Nice videos at E3 etc, but oops, we need to make a game! Not surprised tbh, 95% of games that promise loads fail to deliver usually, moreso in EA's case.
