Hi,
I have noticed that there is a dark area on the Right hand side of my desktop. I cannot remember if this has always been there or not. Its not anywhere else apart from the desktop. As far as I can work out it is connected to the side bar. Is this normal? If not any ideas on what is causing it?

If you are using VGA it could be that the screen needs to be configured. All you have to do in this case is press the auto button on the monitor.
Another thing that it could be is the background image. Try changing it and see if it's that or change the layout from say Centered to stretched.

Thanks for the reply. I am using DVI. I have tried changing the image but the dark area is always present regardless of image or the layout

You should find an icon in your system tray for the sidebar. Right clicking on this will give you lots of options for adding widgets (?) or just closing it.

Would you be able to give us a screen shot to look at?

Closing it removes the dark edge but is it normal for the side bar to have this dark edge.
More than happy to do a sceen shot but dont know howto save the image as a jpg in order to post

I think that's the general idea, so you can see the widgets on the sidebar. There's nothing wrong.

Yeah thats the widget crap.
Annoying as hell imo.
if you drag the widgets off the sidebar (ie on to the desktop), the 'dark area' will auto-hide

There are some cool widgets for it on the net tho.
I have a Postit note, Core/Ram resource monitor, Piano Keyboard for when im bored, and an RSS feed.
I like it.
But for those that dont, its easily enough to hide it.

BTW to close it just right click on the dark area and click close sidebar.
Sorry I forgot to mention that :p
The dark area is controlled by the sidebar program. If you close it, it disappears. I didnt manage to find a way to turn it off and keep the sidebar, I found it was annoying. Shame you couldnt control its density.
