Just a simple question really though i don't know the answer of.

I have a 52 reg Honda Jazz 1.4l SE (wanted the sport cos' it looks prettier but my dad just got me the original one)... and its in a really ugly colour: Sirius Blue... or what i'd think of it as baby metallic blue.

Not my car btw but similar... this ones the newer model^^

Now i'm just wondering, as i've been getting mixed opinions on this and can't come up with a definate answer is:

Will respraying the car (to a more appropriate colour like Silver or Red), hinder the value of the car when/if i come to sell it?

I mean, i don't plan to change cars for at least another 5 years or so... but you never know i may end up trading it in earlier than that for a newer car.

Just to add what i've been hearing is:

Yes it will no matter what.
No it won't when come to selling as you don't tell the guys that you resprayed it blah blah
No it won't as long as the people wanting the car likes that colour.. (obviously it will hinder if i sprayed it like a rainbow)

Edit: Originally i wanted the car sprayed white but everyone knows that it'll be hard to clean over here.. which i know obviously.. but at least it'll look original :(

yes it will unless you get a proper job done... that will cost big money...

the labour charge to strip the entire car down to a shell will be in the region of 2 grand. then there is the prep work, the painting and the finish before the rebuild...

on the other hand you could get a 300 quid blow-over and it flake off in 3 years and the inside of the door shuts would be a different colour.

Seriously... unless you have a lot of money or the car is a restoration job from scratch (which this one isnt) then don't bother.

also if you do change the colour to a non factory one the insurance goes up because it is classed as 'modified'

The most cost-effective solution in both the short and long term would be trade the car in for one of a similar spec but in a different colour. Even taking into account dealer margins it would cost you less money than a proper respray and save any future worries.

The vehicle documents will have the original colour marked on it and I think some prospective customers would be asking questions if the colour was changed - probably out of concern the car has maybe been severely damaged and rebuilt.

I'd second that, Jazz's hold there value very well so you should be able to part exchange it for a better price than a pucker colour change.

Pah, once you're inside it you don't notice the colour!

hehe... i remember my brother saying similar thing to Six, that the Jazz hold their value. I might just keep it as it is if its that much hassle.

Plus i'm not a chav or anything but like computers, i like modifying cars and have planned what i intend to do to the car... suffice to say, if i had the Sport version, i wouldn't think of getting a bodykit for it but this one i will be.

However, i have found out that the bodykit is made by Mugen but kinda' veered away when i saw the price tag (direct import from Japan+shipping+customs etc = ~£1900  )

Tell me what you think of these: (i intend to have a simple yet aggressive looking car. All parts will be bought from Japan or any Japanese Importers. European kits look naff IMO and generally mess up the car overall. Mainly aimed towards better handling and control)

From top to bottom (1st priority to last)

Is it worth it?

It is only a ladies car fer christs sake...

If you were talking a 300z or celica I could understand but not a shopping trolley..

Hehe - Tarting up a hairdressers car!

Save the money and drink more beer / chat up more women - They won't be impressed by the car, so you may as well try and impress them with your chat-up lines and ability to drink huge quantities of beer without acting like a prat!

I dunno - the front looks alright at that angle, but the back does look like an espace...
Also - 900 something squids on a sat-nav all in one thingy?

...ouch?!

i know.... hmmm

Well the bodykit is very similar to the one on the sport and not tarted much as other cars... so it looks a little more original than others.

I agree with Westy. There really is no point in doing anything to it. Drive it for 3 years, don't hit anything and save your money for a decent car and the money you save with a NCB can get you something much faster and classier lookin

Mate,

My GF says that the bodykit looks ridiculous. Now if it's not gonna attract girls.. why do it! Agreed with everyone else leave the car stock and upgrade in a few years.

I don't intend to have the car attract attention tbh.. mainly to have the looks to my personal taste similar to computers... you would get a case which would suit your personal choice.

Not only will this car be fore everyday use.. but my main plan is sticking it on a tract- trackday car

A trackday in a 1.4 Jazz? Seriously, save your money. For the cost of all the bits you've listed, you could buy yourself a cheap little track car (Lotus 7 replica, 205 GTi, etc) and razz that around tracks for a laugh, then still have the Jazz for the sensible driving.

Strut braces on road cars? Honestly.... <cringes>

Don't knock it...

If I could ever raise the cash I would do the Gumball 3000 in a Volvo 44 tonner. Might take me longer....might even have to double man it, er or triple.

dont bother its a 1.4 its not worth it when you come to sell it as its modded it will be woth half the price it is now plus your going to addd a tone of wieght to the poor little engine dont get me wrong i have had modded cars in the past and now have realised the wast they are unless your going to spend about 10k on modding it and making every curve shine you'll end up classed as a chav and still only have a 1.4 then come to sell it and it will be worth 2k save the dosh and when you have some ncb and driving experiance buy better car and pay your insurance off

lol just read the bit about a track day lol thats never going to make a decent track time get a rover 200 with a 2.0 turbo engine in for a few k you can tune them engines up to around 600bhp for track cars or 400 if you want something reliable for day to day use or even a saxo vts turbo cost a bit more but still a light powerfull car,

get yourself down to a cruise locally and find someone who has a spray job... ask who did it and then try and get prices. should be no more than a grand... :) should not do anything to the price it just is a different colour on the v5 :) but check about the engine bay as it is normally poweder coated and it may be an issue to remove your engine completely. :)

don't put the spoiler on it's foolish. if you want it to run faster get yourself a decent filter on and an ecu chip and re-map stick some bp ultimate in it and remove the back seats, you will find it will run a bit faster :) save yourself the money. I'm not doing a lot with my 1.4 golf cuz it's just not worth it much. subtle is in this year, outrageous will be back maybe in a year and a half :)
