There are a few people about the forums that use Vista OS and they'll tell you about what they think about.
As for compatibility you should check that you can get Vista drivers for all of your hardware. Some hardware you may have yo wait for drivers as some are releasing driver on the 30th of January or in February.

Vista is good, but very few drivers out for high end hardware... I can't get drivers for my computer (listed below).
my sys runs fine on vista and i havnt had many problems, just annoying things that i have to work around occasionally. like nero 7 wouldnt install, b ut 6 seems to work fine, my bluetooth dongle wont work on the OS either. just little things really.

We have, have a look around the Vista forum and you'll find a few opinions to go with the experience.
To answer your questions: It's great on some systems, and shakey on others. What's your exact hardware specification?
Motherboard, CPU, Graphics card, amount of RAM? Any other peripherals?
the OP won't be back me thinks

Funny my cheepo Bluetooth works fine (bought it from Kustoms years ago before they moved!!!!) It's the nokia cable to my mobile that's not working! lol!! the software on the comp won't recognise my mobile when plugged in by USB but see's it fine over bluetooth :D
USB works on XP laptop file with no issues! so it's not the cable! might be the Nokia software not vista compatable!!
whay bluetooth you got ? Belkin??

i got this from sony ericsson uk
Dear George,
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Call Centre.
With regards to your enquiry, there are currently no plans for vista software for our handsets.
Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again for further help and support.
and my reply was....
So effectively my k800i is useless as a calendar/information manager and I can no longer sync any numbers with outlook on vista…
What a completely shortsighted view from such a major player in the mobile phone market.
to which they have not replied yet...

Im running Vista Home Premium, and i love it. The looks are great as the new Aero theme, speed i havn't had a problem with, my laptop is running it smoothly. When it comes to compatablity the only problems i have had is with Webcam (Creative Skype Cam), my Kingston U3 usb splash screen dosent load, and also my nova t usb works when it wants to and other times just blue screens!!!!. But other than that i have no problems.

sorry, got a bit over excited there. ive just found configuring wireless networks on multiple platforms works very well, using me vista machine (this one) router, an access point and two XP laptops was a cynch.

was a cynch.... how microsoft :) Well I had a 20min play with vista on my server mid flatline (smashed a spare 7900gs in it for good measure temp). Vista installed fine however I couldn't find a VIA audio driver that it liked for my onboard. The looks are nice but I can't see the swirlyness aiding my productivity and the GPU fan not idling in windows wasn't overly fantastic. The main problem I had was stopping the directory tree disappearing (and getting it back), got there in the end but was almost tearing my hair out. I think i'll get used to it when I have to. XP is just far better for my needs currently until dx10 becomes truely real at least!

ps. just so people know what i was using (ran smoothly):
3200 venice
Asus A8v-vm
1gb crucial ddr400
7900gs

I've just installed my free upgrade to Vista Business.... I'm in love!
It's simply gorgeous. I love all the little eye-candy touches that XP was lacking. The layout is a lickle bit confusing at the moment, but i thought the same when switching from 95 - XP. I did have a problem with my free AVG anti-virus, but i'd been contemplating paying for it anyway so it just gave me that little extra nudge. Everything's working fine and i'm very impressed. Just wondering what the difference is between the 32 and 64 bits...

They are 2 completely different operating systems. 64 needs different drivers, sometimes different programs. It is there because it can be faster and has support for something like 128gig of memory. You need a proccessor such as a AMD 64bit or a Intel Core 2 Duo to run it, no other will run it. 64bit proccys are of course backwards compatible with 32bit windows (as you appear to have found out running Vista 32bit on your 64bit Core 2 Duo).
For further reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit
To answer your other question, I think you need to switch off that active protection stuff that comes with vista as it seemed to be preventing AVG's real time stuff from loading. On the other hand I just installed Avast free which I've realised pwns AVG anyways.

Ahhh, thanks Nicky. I was only offered the 32bit for my free upgrade from XP, so didn't have the option for the 64bit. Probably would have gone for that, might consider it in the future if prices come down. I have no problems with AVG after subscribing (which i was tempted to do anyway).
Only hiccup is my Rainbox 6 Vegas is having sound problems... probably due to a lack of drivers.

Since you own the 32bit version, you can send for the 64bit version from Microsoft... for free
Well... free - apart from the £8 postage that is :D
Order it here (http://www.windowsvista.com/1033/ordermedia) ;)
what i found (i own a OEM Home Prem x64 version) is that when i downlaoded the X84 image (cough) and used my 64bit licance on a 32bit install. Works fine.
