Has everyone who is using Vista found the drivers for all of their hardware? I've not found any on the manufacturers websites for mine

Could be a slight issue!

What hardware are you looking for the drivers for?

Edit: Woot 3500 posts :)

well the only bit of hardware on your list that would need a driver is the nvidia card.. and nvidia have beta drivers on their website.

Ah still in the BETA stages... I was looking for the final release!

I seem to be having a problem with peoples sigs not always loading. The retial verison of vista is due for release soon so all your hard ware should have final drivers by then.

It's released on the 19th so hopefully I'll have it on the 20th latest. Fingers crossed for the drivers!

My problem is that drivers for my Terratec 7.1 Universe sound card are not available until at least Febuary  ... Drivers for printers etc are available though ... I will stick with XP64 till the sound drivers are released

I'm on onboard sound at the moment. I remember my DMX 6 Fire had issues with drivers a few years ago.

I have all the drivers for my Vista Ultimate x64 apart from my G15 keyboard which is so annoying.

Having my G15 for use with XP Pro and a crappy logitech media keyboard for Vista feels awkward.

Plus a little problem with mine is that Vista seems to take a long time to load.. approximately 10-15mins from start-up.

Seems odd but IMO i think its due to me dual booting it on the same drive.. though i could be wrong. Anyone have a similar problem to me?

i have a dual boot, and vista loads in a normal amount of time.

sounds like you have some unique issue.

when i load into safe mode.. it shows all the drivers being loaded on the screen until it gets to windows\system32\drivers\crcdisc (IIRC), at that point it hangs for quite a while before getting to Vista

Euphoria

That doesn't sound right... when I was using the BETA, it loaded around the same time as XP.

My Vista loads up faster than XP did on this machine. I think the bootup time is brillent. Maybe a reinstall is in need there mate. Does everyone else get a logo at the bootscreen??

Nope same thing happens... unless i have a dodgey hard drive.. the only way left is to test using a new hdd.

I am right into thinking that you install vista on top of a current operating system right? or do you select upgrade? cos' before vista, i had XP 64bit running and rather than choosing upgrade, i chose a clean install.

BTW got my G15 keyboard working so yay.

you do a clean install of Vista, upgrading isn't advisable

Euphoria
15-01-2007, 16:19
Definately do a clean install. I don't think upgrading from my normal XP Pro to 64bit Vista would work.

Just tried for a third time but makes no difference.

Think its the hdd as i tried installing on a friends new hdd and it worked flawlessly.

Just gotta save up now :(

No it won't unless you have 64 bit windows installed

xp pro 32bit: can only install vista which uses 32bit
xp 64: installs vista which uses 64bit

What hard drive do you need? I have a spare Raptor kicking around...

What hard drive do you need? I have a spare Raptor kicking around...

Its alright now. Found out the problem.. well not exactly.

I was looking around on several vista forums and found out it could be one of the two.. or even both.

1) Hard drive - with this i did a full on format of the partition on my drive. (before i only did a quick format so this could've been a problem. Who knows!)

2) Dodgey DVD drive - replaced mine with one i had lying around.

But in the end after a 4th re-install, everything seems to work flawlessly and take less than a minute to boot up rather than 30!

So i'm happy for a while... shame some of the drivers for vista aren't released like my keyboard driver but oh well.

But thanks for the offer Euphoria :) :D

edit: BTW Euphoria, rather than installing your chipset drivers on your disc, may i suggest you head to:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=816&lang=eng

Intel has the latest drivers for all chipsets.. IIRC you Abits 975 isn't it? Intel has all versions of Vista on there :)

Unlike previous versions of Windows, it works a charm doing an upgrade install on the couple of boxes I've tested it on - In fact, one of them responds and works faster under Vista than XP!

Asus got back to me saying that 90% of the required drivers for hardware (not just mine) are all pre-built into Vista... not sure if that's a good thing or not.

... not sure if that's a good thing or not.

I'd say it's gotta be... for the benefit of new/inexperienced users certainly?

Whilst you and I might prefer to use the latest drivers available on the manufacturers website... I personally think it's a great benefit, if the OS can recognise and install default drivers for any hardware in a system.

They'll be perfectly adequate to get the average user up and running, after which those who know what they're doing, would visit the manufacturers website, and update to the latest drivers ;)

Any chance you could PM me about how you got the Logitech G15 working? A friend of mine is having a nightmare getting his working with Vista :)

I'm finding the inbuilt drivers for my NForce 3 board are serving me well, apart from how I can't seem to use readyboost due to "this interface is not supported"
eh  Its a usb 2.0 port.....

Well I got Vista through today, all good and well. It installed no problem. Just when it came to install the drivers... I have zero drivers available for any of my hardware! There isn't a GeForce 8800 driver at all (not even BETA) until the 30th January earlier. As for my wireless card, that wont be supported, so have to use my USB Linksys one, but again, that isn't supported yet on Vista! Also there are 2x Mass Storage devices listed, which must be my 2 hard drives... why they are listed I don't know. And finally, I have an unknown device which I've had sitting there since I built my new PC. It shows up in XP too... no idea what that is!

TBH there are currently no Logitech Drivers... but for some reason (over half of the time) i boot up my PC and my keyboard works... but not the LCD or macro keys of course... and the other half... well... it decides not to switch on and work. So its still a pain in the butt.

Good thing i have a P5W Deluxe mobo which has a wireless card built in.. therefore i only needed to install the Vista drivers on their site :p

The mass storage, those will more than likely be your hard drives.

As for the Unknown devices, i've no idea but it happened to me when i installed Vista though it doesn't show while i'm on XP. If you click properties and it says the device is working etc... you might as well take no notice of it.

I'd like to see proper Nforce 3 drivers come out for my Vista X86, fingers crossed. It seems like Asrock and VIA are some of the only manufactorers who have got on with firstly producing hardware that will work under vista but also have the drivers for it as well. I find it odd how on average an asrock budget £40, £50 motherboard (which don't exactly have that bad performance given the price) have more drivers readily available then some of the bigger mobo manufactorers. I'd have thought more money could have been spent and development on Vista drivers by the bigger manufactorers then the smaller ones?

I'm 99% sure they are my hard drives, but why they are listed there I do not know. Just have to sit tight and wait for the bloomin' drivers to appear!

Well, you all seem to be having more luck than I.

Vista x86 won't install my NF2 network adaptor, or SoundStorm. So much for 'out-of-the-box' compatability  (Yes, I know it's old, but it's not so old that it can't run the damn OS!)

I wouldn't have mind too much if it was just SoundStorm, but seeing how the NIC won't install either -- I've been relegated to an out-of-the-house-housemate's PC. :(

Been Googling around, and there doesn't seem to be any third-party driver -- nor any drivers on the Microsoft website(s). So bleh. I'm a bit knackered until I install Ubuntu.

So far Vista seems OK though. Be nice if I could actually use it for something interesting.

I thought the installer was WAY over-simplified. Not a single option for partitioning or quick/full formats? I'd like to think that even if you hide these things under and 'advanced' option, that they should still be in there somewhere.

(Though on the upside, it supported the hot-plugging of my USB drive, after I realised it wasn't going to install the S-ATA controller for me! :))

I'm going to full format my hard drive in XP before I install Vista on it. I don't like not having the option to do that.

I finally found a driver for one of my wireless adaptors! Not the official 64-bit Linksys one, but a 3rd party one some guy made. If anyone has a Linksys device they need a Vista driver for let me know and I'll hunt out the link again. It's working a treat!
