Well after my taser related thread, i thought it suitable to post another example of The American Police's unrivaled ability to take things too far.

Who knows this time, he could have been resisting arrest by wriggling too much, or his dog could have been biting or barking at the police.

if in doubt shoot them.

GEEZE!

Thanks rly, now I know where I stand with you!

I was (or still am) an american, an immigrant and on the dole, go ahead and make some more sweeping remarks.

prejudice
noun [C or U]
an unfair and unreasonable opinion or feeling, especially when formed without enough thought or knowledge:

Added. I think the shooter should be shot, does that make me a bad person? (other than being a Yank, an Immigrant and a "Doley")

I don't think he hates all americans, just a few :p
Like the goddam trigger happy police. I'd rather have our police anyday and thats saying something alright.

It's not just America though, armed police in any country are trigger happy. In fact we are the only country in the world to have unarmed police, (99% sure) and I think that is a damn good achievement! How many times on the news do you hear of coppers getting shot in this country, a few times a year tops? Many more would die if the cops had guns. The last thing this place need is trigger happy a**holes.

Let it remain like this for many years to come.

On another note I do agree that if a burgular breaks into your house you should be able to shoot him square between the eyes.

I'm sorry but if you think you are going to shoot anything that moves no matter if it's attacking you or not you shouldn't have your gun out. I mean the cop must have been dam jumpy to shoot dead an unarmed man for answering the door.

Did I just agree with something you posted? :o
America is the world's #1 country for gun crime. I wonder why...
Trigger happy police who shoot someone for answering the door
and of course, the fact that anyone ages 18 can go and buy a gun in a shop

This is such a sad story, even if they were certain that the guy was guilty, he didn't deserve to die for it. It amazes me that anybody could be 'trigger happy' because (I would have thought) taking someone's life is such a big thing, that you would shoot only if you absolutely had to. How does that deputy sleep at night knowing that he has killed an unarmed man posing no threat to him?

I'm also really glad our police do not use guns and hope it stays that way.

Isn’t it bizarre that you can buy a gun at 18 but have to be over 21 to drink?

Feel free to flame me as I can't back this up with any stories (at least without digging around), but what doesn't make it into the news over here is the number of american cops who just get shot point blank for nothing so you have to expect this sort of thing to happen.

As to how this situation arose in the first place, well the right to bear arms springs to mind....

and speaking of immigrants coming over here and going on the dole etc., I can't resist the obvious South Park quote "Thy tk rr jobs!"

Sorry

Agreed, if he's on my property he's gonna get a shovel in his dome.

I think the point he was trying to make is that we don't have armed cops walking the beat 24/7. I agree this is a good thing, if the police had guns it gives a crook no option but to carry one too.

They are anti terrorist police. We do have armed police, just not every policeman walking around is armed, only the response ones

I once saw a video of an American tactical team take down a guy walking around his house.

The police were called to the house because the guy had a shotgun and was making threats to people. The police we're trying to flank the house and get in the back and didn't realise he had came out. They almost walked into each other. the quick triggered police opened fire and the guy just fell to the ground. In my mind, that was the right thing to do.

Strickland (PS3 dude) was known to have assault weapons and much like the story above you may not have a second chance.

As with all things reported by UK press against American cops, there's a fair amount of prejudice. I would suggest you look at CNN or Fox to see what the Americans view of the story is and then make a more informed decision.

Also what dog doesn't run for the door when the door bell goes, it was probably caught in the shots (police don't shoot just once) or it posed a threat.

Nope, I'll reserve judgement until I've seen and heard more.

edit: I just went to read up about it and was looking on the CNN site. I can't believe how many shootings there are ! Ok, maybe the generalisation of Americans and guns is correct (whether it's because of culture, fear or whatever). I stopped reading because it was so bad.

Speaking of cops and Americans. here (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1205062xmas2.html) you can find out why a 12 year old boy got busted for opening a christmas present early.

Underground shooting last year. I don't mean to start the whole debate over that again, but it's hardly unheard of in this country. Sorry to put a downer on your 'total superiority of the British armed police over the dumbass yanks' theory.

Actually, all police in northern ireland are (were) armed (yes, we all know y, so dont bother saying it), even their support staff had handguns. Used to see police at checkpoints with silenced mp5's. Nothing like what happens in america ever happened in Northern Ireland.

this country is by no means perfect, i mean there are a few too many murders in this country for my liking. but i mean at least from the face of it the police doa good job, and are not tooo many mistakes made.
