View Full Version : Saddam Hussein Sentenced To Hang
Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been convicted of crimes against humanity by a Baghdad court and sentenced to death by hanging.
He was found guilty over his role in the killing of 148 people in the mainly Shia town of Dujail in 1982.
His brother Barzan al-Tikriti was also sentenced to death, as was Iraq's former chief judge Awad Hamed al-Bander

Not sure what I think of this. He's been found guilty of some hideous crimes, but couldn't this make a Martyr of him?
I'd rather see him spend the rest of his life in an orange jump-suit, but it's not exactly an 'exessive' sentence all things considered.
Good Ridance.
Matyr or no, world is better off without him.
Being in prison for the rest of his life just wastes more money, and leaves it open for demonstrations by extremists to get him released. More kidnappings and whatever.
Matyr or no, world is better off without him.
You think? But where would we be without his inspirational rock/paper/scissors skills?

He might aswell of been shot when he was found there was no way that there was ever going to be any other sentence for him. Imagine the outcry with the whole "war on terror" if he got off with life/insanity etc etc it would of made the war look even worse than it already does.
However he deserves everything he gets and more...

Brings a new meaning to the word "Owned!"
Im glad this is happening, it should of happened along time ago, when they first found him... did they really need a trail to convict him of the horrible and outrageous crimes that he has commited. I am relived that the world will be finally rid of this aweful man.
(Also i remeber seeing that Rock Paper Saddam thing ages ago, and it still makes me smile now!)
OMG! you can't just kill him because you say he is evil!
Yes we all know he is guilty but he has to be trialled and it has to be seen to be fair otherwise we are no worse than him.
Although i am still personally not entirely comfortable with the death sentence.
I do believe, to some extent, of 'the ends should justify the means' teleological school of ethics - but what is the difference in locking him in a cell and murdering him? Do we not reach the same end result?

I think that Hanging is too quick and painless. My personal method would be to put him in a cage with 20 women who's husbands, sons etc he murdered...now that would be a fitting death!
I think death is far too good for him, that's the easy way out, he should spend the rest of days in solitary until insanity gets him.

I don't know; hanging seems quite traumatic. You've got all the tense build up and you might not die instantly when you fall through the trap door.

No. If he was alive he would be a symbol of rebellion. When he is dead he will not be. He's not no che guvera where all of the population idolise him.

In the middle east they usually get a crane and hoist them into the air. Not trap door style....although I've seen it done both ways.
Or they could just Tye him to a tree and make him stand on a box... and kick the box from under his feet. But tease him... so he don't know when its going to be kicked. That would be my method anyway :).
Teasing... That's such an american war prison guard attitude it's unreal.
You have to understand that Saddam belives he is in the right as day is light and night is dark- Teasing just prooves that he's right and you're an infidel.
The man has to realise he is wrong. I only hope that when they hang him, his former people will set up a mighty boo as he comes out into view, and that he might finally accept that he was tyranical and his people are now free of him.

To be fair the whole politics thing makes me laugh...
Saddam husseins trial verdict comes 2 days before American Mid-Term elections...
They guy investigating Tony Blair and where he should be charge in "Cash for honours" actually got a life peerage from him and gave him a donation in 1999 (er....conflict of interest anyone?)
Gordon Browns son buys land as a speculator that his dad then approves for development making it rocket in price...er...wtf?
If I didnt laugh I would cry....
I am so thinking of running in the next election....just for ****s and giggle. Maybe under the banner..."I'm rubbish...but at least I am cheap"
Bit more info on what happens next:
Guilty verdicts on murder charges are automatically sent to appellate panel within 10 days
It can take as little as 20 days for the appeal to be heard
If sentence is upheld, execution must be carried out within 30 days
Iraq's tripartite presidency must sign the execution papers
Sentence may be delayed to allow conclusion to Anfal trial

Whom is going to go on trial for funding and training him , after all it was us and america....and we sold him the weapons and gave him intel on his neighbours.
I still think its tragic that we went into a country and took it over for oil to keep us economically afloat , and more than once..theres atrocities all over the world yet we havent went into those place have we.
SAddam had to be ousted by his people , there will be forever hate about that it wasnt that way , it will be worse a couple of generations down the line.Anti aglo america sentimentality will get worse when theres no good economy in our country to feed the war machine to fight it.....except of course the nukes that will be flying , and thats another reason why they dont want the arab nations to have the nuke to fight back with.
SAddam will be a martyr , and we will regret it , perhaps though he should be beheaded on national arabic television channels live a punishment that would at least fit the crime considering thats how they still do it over there.
