Because of the nature of SFF, many of us want remote controls to control our SFFs. How many of you want would be interested in Remotes if Graeme ever got them in? If any interest is shown I'll move the thread to product suggestions and see if Graemes interested.

For those guys already using soloutions - what are you using?

Suppose one idea is to try and rig up the pocketpc and pit a ir receiver on the shuttle

There are packages out there - many need to be imported (infact most) some are OEM only - perhaps Gareme has an idea of whats available to him.

I presonally like the Remote Wonder than is current only on sale in the U.S. Its a usb remote for any usb pc.

mate of mine had one of these in his car (long story, don't ask)

x10 remote (http://www.x10.com/products/x10_mk19a.htm)

Worked quite well and had the advantage of being wireless rather than infrared.

cheers

whilst we're on the subject, has anybody come across a wireless keyboard with an integrated trackball? I saw one on the net a while ago but i'm having no joy in London.

Get one of THESE (http://shop.store.yahoo.com/snapstreammedia/irblasbun.html) and run it with This (http://www.showshifter.com/) software, it will let you use your sky remote (or others) to play music, vids, or tv.
You can control the comp with it, and the comp can control sky boxes and stuff, it also interfaces with lappys and some phones.
If you dont like the showshifter program use THIS (http://www.girder.nl/) to control any comp actions with any ir remote

I prefer purpose built soloutions such as the ATi remote wonder which is demand over here (just check out via hardware to see), unfotunately no one over here supplies it.

If mentioned on via hardware, this thing would sell like hot cakes if someone like kustom had them.

Kustom have a good IR keyboard with a small trackball in the keyboard section 'Compact IR Keyboard Silver'. I use it with my EPIA based 'Music Station' It can also controle Windows Media player via play, pause, ffw, rwd stop and volume keys.

Hi there!

Has anyone found a UK source for the ATI remote wonder-I think I'm gonna burst if i don't get one soon!
:)

PJ Matthews

There are no UK sources - it would take someone like Kustom to import them.

U can get the Ati remotes from Komplett in the UK, just do a search for Hercules and it should be at the bottom of the list.

It cost me £26 and that includes VAT & P+P.

Hope this don't upset Graeme me giving links to his competitors.

U can also get them from Hercules French site, there ship to the UK.

Hope this helps everyone

Update: here is a page for you to download some plugins for it

Wow jesus - your the man.

Aparantly kustom don't mind indirect competitors.

This is the USB plug in do dally that doesn't require an ati card right?

PJ Matthews

The one im after is Hercules Remote control for AIW 7500 right?

Skipp2k
16-09-2002, 00:52
Ya its the Hercules you are after, its an ATI remote has it printed on it, its also the USB one, don't need a ATI card for it to work.

And Komplett are very good, lets hope kustom gets some in but.

I use mine to control PowerDVD, just waiting for the SN41 now to build me system up.

Just ordered mine. This would be a hot seller if it was listed as the Remote Wonder. Kustompcs take note, a pc remote would prove popular.

Just double checking:
Does the hercules remote on Komplett come with the USB RF adapter-so that the remote can be used on any PC?
It doesn't say so on the site!
Sorry to be a pain and ask this but if the answer is yes I'm in for at least 2!
Thanks for all your time guys!

Sorry to adverstise other sites again Graeme, but the full ATI version of the remote is available for £35 inc vat and delivery from:
http://www.blisware.com/specialoffer_remotewonder.htm

Just got and e-mail from them-they have 40 in stock!
Not sure which one to go for yet, as the hercules one comes to almost £29 when the delivery is put on!
Nice to have the choice tho'! :D

the hercules one is the ati one, its the same remote with ati printed on it and also ati printed on the usb transmitter.

I got mine from komplett and paid about £26 for it.
You could try Hercules french store, might get it cheaper.

Make sure you get the updated drivers from ATI. If I recall correctly, you have to sequentially update the remote to 1.1 then to 1.2. Do it, it gets better. There's a site or two out there that offers plug-in modules for different programs such as ACDSee, PowerPoint, and WinAmp (don't have the links on me at the moment). Can't be too hard to find in Google. The damn thing just plain WORKS. For me, it works great with WMP and WinAmp. It's a mouse, a media controller, a lightsaber... Haven't gotten it to run my toaster yet, though.

It doesn't need an ATI card to run. I used to have it in my bedroom running an ATI AIW Radeon 7500 (it came bundled with it), but then I moved it to the Shuttle SV24 in the living room and BLAMMO! Perfect conversion. But damn, that ATI AIW 7500 with the remote for US ~$125 is a crazy great deal, IMHO.
