Because their not ruling out any theories, they are still assuming it could be terrorist related, and are "As a precaution, fighter planes are now flying over a number of US cities."

Isn't this a bit of a overreaction? :\

I mean, having figther planes flying around over the city just because some stars plane crashed into a building in a public area is a bit extreme, imagine if they had to try take an intruding plane down above the city!

That would be more hassle than its worth.

Hundreds of thousands of people could also be killed just because they can't rule out that theory.

Why would a terrorist even want to hijack some small private plane anyway

I mean they wouldn't do anything like that here in the UK!

Its not just that, but this is how 9/11 started.

A small plane crashed. People shrug and BOOM! There all dead.

well depending on who you listen too...

he was either a terrible pilot ( hence the instructor in the plane at the time)
or he was suicidal.

Note the Fighters were scrambled BEFORE the plane hit the building, the are scrambeled every time a plane goes of radar as a matter of course.. there IS an election on a few weeks! you know!!

Except on September the 11th, if you believe the Conspiracy Theorists ;)
That's another argument though and we won't go down that road.

Does anyone know what time of day they hit the building? Was it in daylight or at night-time?

I mean this as a genuine question, I'm not being flippant about this because it's a terrible thing to happen BUT

If you've got an Instructor in the plane who can take the controls at any time- how the hell do you hit a building?
I may be having a severe failure of imagination but I don't understand how it would have happened.

I must admit I got a horrid feeling in my stomach when I read the headline on the Beeb website
"Plane Strikes New York Building" :(

Something to add if you're looking to find a conspiracy, the part of the city where this happened is one of the most expensive places to live on earth.
The tiniest flat there is well over a million dollars.

I belive the conspiracy theories, but i think you'll find 2 f16's were scrambled :) from Langley.

Sorry to go down that road :) hehe :p

I didn't know that, actually- s'pose we'll never know all the details of what happened- it's hard to sort all the facts and hearsay and stuff :)

Have also just read that this incident happened during the day in "Overcast" conditions and there were two people in the plane- the pilot/Baseball player and his instructor.

I think it was aliens. Did you notice the mysterious "4" made by the smoke on the side of the building....and that lady they interviewed.....her name was burnt house or something similar....definitely aliens.

More hassle than it's worth? Are you some sort of plankton?

You do remember 9/11, don't you? 3,000+ people died so no, it's not any over reaction. In hindsight, yes it is but they have to act on the information they have at the time and that is exactly what they did. I, for one, would be more than happy for the 'over reaction' if I was a resident of New York.

Personally, I think you need to think a bit more before you type.

Yeah I was going to explain the two sides of the "more hassle than its worth thing, but I couldn't quite get it out right and it was late so I just left it at that, but I do agree there are 2 different sides to the hassle statement, but what they do say is, "the crash is being treated as an accident", how can they be treating it as that if their flying fighter jets around as protection

I don't quite get that!!

 Maybe im just tired, ain't had sleep for over 36 hours

Even if the Powers That Be knew that sending Jets up across the States was an over-reaction and there was no credible terror threat, you can bet they'd do it anyway for the sake of appearances.

You have a point there. Thats what I believe happend with 9/11. But i won't go into that :)

I'd never have guessed.

Doesn't it cost millions to fly a fighter? All of which comes out of the taxpayer, so I doubt they would do it just for appearances.

UbT

It dosent worry them. There are fighters up all of the time doing operations. At the moment there is a operation in the south west involving 16 F-16's and numorus other aircraft. And those aircraft are up everyday flying and doing training operations. So the US are clearly don't care about the expensies of flying them.

Right or they could sit on there **** again and do nothing. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. The decision to fly the jets would probably been made in under a minute.

What have you go to lose? Some aviation fuel and a couple of hours on an airframe?

Balance that against the possibility that there could have been more planes up there and remember at the point that there was no way that they would have been able to tell that there was only 1 plane, they didnt have several hours of news reports.
