Pointless, cos I think PJ doesn't appreciate Linux like some of us do :D
Some of you may know that Microsoft changed the hardwrae spec of the Xbox so that it could no longer be hacked to run Linux.
News on /. (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/10/12/1742226&mode=thread&tid=137)... the new Xboxen have been hacked, and are running Linux as we speak.
I wonder if you can die of smugness?

No I can appreciate Linux and what has been achieved by a comunity of users. It may be outdated compared to the big OS, but it hasn't had any financial investment.
Pointless - because its cheaper to simply get a epia or similar to run Linux on, plus the 64 meg will be limiting. Also once installed you cannot place games anymore.

From the Xbox Linux project at SourceForge:
"Current versions of Linux still work very well with only 64 MB."
"That depends on the solution you choose. If you run Linux through the XBE bootloader on an Xbox with a modchip, there's a dual-boot solution. There are also "Live CD's" that make it possible possible to run Linux from a CD without having your hard disk modified at all.
If you use the replacement ROM method, you would have to install both ROMs in parallel to be still able to run games."

So what is the point of the hassle? None, its just some people feeling smug they've installed Linux on an X-BOX.

There's also the feeling of getting a reasonably high powered PC for less than £200...

since someone else started the topic, Sony have released Linux for the ps2 in offical supported kit form, with a harddrive, keyboard, mouse and linux install - obviously not wanting xbox to get one over ;) cept its not anyways because microshaft were having a fit lol!
check out the sony europe site if anyone actually wants to install linux on their ps2 - it does let you connect to your home network and some nice things.
