View Full Version : AMD X2 dual bladi blah V Conroe
Basically I'm building a new system budget of £550.
I have about £140 to spend on a processor...
I mostly do gaming and a bit of work ;)
Will it be conroe will it be amd x2 will it be a single processor?
I have been offered an engineering sample of e6400 for £125.
Also best GFX card for £110?Do i go for something like 7600GT?
Thanks for your help!

Is this "engineering sample" used? If it is then its a bit expensive because you can buy a brand new OEM E6400 for about £155.
This should be a nice little system. If you add the CPU for £125 it will be a bit over your budget at £600 so you may want to get cheaper RAM or a cheaper graphics card.
Antec SLK1650B + 350watt PSU - £45
Gigabyte GA 965P DS3 (Socket 775) Motherboard - £105
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 RAM - £130
Western Digital Caviar Sata Hard Drive 160GB - £45
BFG GeForce 7600 GT 256MB - £125
DVD-RW Drive - £25

Red think you getting a little mixed up... looking at it, he is getting an ES cheaper than the OEM.... then again i wouldn't mind an ES version of the chip. They most likely overclock more than the proper ones
ES CPU's do not have locked multiplyers so they should be better for overclocking.

Eh? I was pointing out that £125 for what I thought was a second hand CPU is a bit much if you can buy a new one for £155.
From what you say about the ES one though it sounds like the best bet.
Ok lets try something else the guy with the ES is now ignoring me so im just going to stuff that idea.
Basically i've had a rethink and im going to go for a £500 machine + a tft screen for around 100 - 120 so yeah this is what i came up with.
Asus P5V-VM DH Socket 775 PCI-E Integrated Graphics DDR2 Wireless LAN - £58
Intel Conroe e6300 - 2 X 1.83 - £140
Corsair Value Select 1GB 2X512mb 667mhz ddr2 - £65
WD 160GB SATAII - £41
Thermaltake TR2 Value 500W - £42
XFX 7600 GT 590mhz core clock and 1600mhz memory clock - £122
Lite on DVD Drive - £20
Thats what i got so far and that comes to £490 or there abouts.
To me that sounds like a nice lil machine but im concerned about the gfx card.
I've read so much stuff about ATI and Nividia cards around te £120 mark and i have no clue as what to go for 7600GT of some sort seems the best for me.
I will be doing lots of gaming so would a single procesorr like the 3800+ athlon be better than the conroe allowing me therefore to get a cheaper mobo and buy more ram and a better gfx card?
thanks for any help.
