View Full Version : XP still crashing / rebooting :-(
Hi folks if you remember my last post, I explained that my puter was auto rebooting every other minute, because of a conflict with cheapy graphics card.
Have just this second installed ATI Radeon 8500 downloaded latest XP drivers and isntalled it proper.
However straight away got the same crash and reboot:
here is the error message:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini092602-02.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\NICKCL~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4.tmp.dir00\ sysdata.xml
Same every time!
Any suggestions, really starting to hack me off now! :-(
Thanks
Nick

Was this the one with the Error message originally of 'IRQ_Less_Or_Equal_To'??
If so, do you have both E-Donkey & Zone Alarm running at the same time???? If so, change the firewall to a different type and the problem will be gone.
I had exactly the same problem with AIW8500, Zone Alarm and edonkey. Got rid of Zone Alarm and now using Black Ice and have been crash free since. :)
Its really quite bad, restartig regularly..

Is the Radeon a 'Built By' or 'Powered By' card? Which revision of the Catalyst drivers are you using? Did you uninstall the old video card drivers before installing the ATI? Did you reinstall the 4 in 1's after installing the ATI? Did you reinstall the DX8.1b patch after installing the ATI?
Is the Twinmos Memory running Winbond RAM IC's? If so then drop the memory timings down to the most conservative as I come across a similar problem yesterday. Twinmos branded RAM, Winbond IC's, on a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP (KT400), wouldn't allow me to install XP Home with error messages thrown up in windings straight after the 'Press any key to boot from CD'. Took the Twinmos out and put my own personal memory in and it booted & installed fine. Put the Twinmos into my machine and it wouldn't boot into Windows unless I set the memory down to the most conservative settings that my AT7-MAX would allow.
Hi Darren.

Haven't touched the 4 in 1, and direct x8.1 should be the latest already I updated them recently.

Everything is at default Darren, haven't changed anything, should I?
I got twinmoss, cause I had heard a lot of good things about it
Oh and yes, I did uninstall the drivers before I changed the card!
But I had the same problem with the previous card!

After installing new drivers for GFZ & other multimedia devices, you should really reinstall Direct X & chipset drivers as the manufacturers GART files (amongst others) can be of a older revision. Try reinstalling DX & ther 4 in 1's (latest revisions). Fixes a lot of issues.
Darren, you are the don of hardware advice!
Have followed you're advice and seems to of sorted everything...
How are you getting on with your AT7? Do you find its stable? Its pretty darn quick, my system is very speedy. And now that I got the confliction sorted out with the gfx/c it really seems to be very stable!
And also with regards to what you were saying about the ram should I change anything in the bios?

With the RAM, I would set it in the BIOS to get it's timings from the SPD for maximum stability. It is worth trying a few different timings just to experiment, as you may be lucky.
I love my AT7-MAX. Fast, stable (if you use the right parts and set the BIOS correctly, which really stands for all MoBo's) & has all the ports that I need. People knock Abit's because of 'documented problems' (ala SB Live & VIA Southbridge) but the problems are with all boards rather than just the Abit, and also only occur in certain situations. I will now only use Abit boards in custom configurations and have all confidence in them.
