i got windows 2000 right on a WD Caviar 17GB, i want:
1 x 2GB partition (windows)
1 x 7GB patition
1 x 8GB partition
cos i'm gonna re-format HDD. Can i use FDISK from win98 boot disk or has 2000 got a utility to do this on the 4 startup disks you are issued with?
Or are there any programs that run in DOS that could do this for me. Thanks.

or buy it....
2000 allows you to set partition sizes during the install.
just follow the instructions.
and boot from the cd, the disks slow things down
To add to Dead_One's spot on comments, I strongly suggest you leave at least 3Gb for the Windows partition. Assuming you let ordinary programs (like Office, etc.) load on the Windows partition, it leaves no space for the swap file. You need a minimum of 500Mb, (if left to it's own devices Win2k will take 1,500Mb) and you will find if you have left little space after this, de-fragging the partition becomes very difficult.

Partition Magic. You usually get that bundled with motherboards nowadays.

i was gonna have just the windows file on one drive on its own, it saves time when booting up. I dont want office on the same drive as windows, JUST WINDOWS on its own!

partition magic 7 is the latest, obviously there is a few ways you can get hold of this, but i would have to advise buying it! :D
Check your mobo disc though, make sure its not on the free apps, although you'll prolly only get a test version!

i'm not sure how to do this with windows 2000 though, if its anything like FDISK i havn't got a clue! i should be reformatting HDD tomorrow so anyone any ideas to repartition with windows 2000, also i have partition magic 7 now :D :D
well the way I did it, was install windows, and the run partition magic 7, make boot disk, and then boot from pm7, and make partitions afterwards, you can do lots of other things with pm7 as well! But its up2 you, it does sound like a hassle, but its actually pretty straight foward!
