Forget about Operating Systems - if you were on a desert island etc and you could only have one application with you - what would it be and why? What do you use most?

Internet Explorer 6 & a decent satelitte connection as obviously knowing BT or NTL, there wouldn't be DSL or Cable :D :D
Assuming the box had a LAN connection to the internet I'd have PuTTY then I could ssh to anywhere and get mail/web/irc/etc :).
Erm im assuming that there is a power station on this islnad or something, or do we just stick some solar panels to the top of our laptops to trickle charge the battery?
Erm im still thinking what the most useful proggy will be for me........
Has to be Maya or Photoshop...not sure what use they'd be on a desert island but wht the hey....
Comming to think about it a S.A.S. survival proggy might be more handy...
The most generally useful program, if only allowed one, is a spreadsheet as it is the most versatile. It can do word processing, free hand artwork and pre-defined shapes, database work, all after a fashion, and, of course the spreadsheet facility most likely could be used to maintain a list of all the different tortures you will impose upon the slimy b-----d who left you on the island in the first place!
Remember folks, the allusion to desert island is not to be taken seriously as we all know we wouldn't really bother about computer programs - food, water, shelter, escaping the sharks, hunting for our girl Friday (Now who's dreaming?) would all come first, and always remember, the sand gets absolutely everywhere!

Do you have to take it so seriously?

If I had the choice I wouldn't want to be stuck in a swamp..
ross beat me to it. It'd have to be putty for the same reasons already stated. :)

As long as there's some decent speakers, it would have to be WMP or Winamp for me.
Note; a desert island is not necessarily all sand, it's normally defined as a small isolated unpopulated tropical island. :p

Assuming there's a wireless access point there (surely all tropical islands have one these days) then Firefox please - then I can download all the other stuff :p
Seriously, though, I guess I'd go for Eclipse, then I can spend my days writing java stuff (I take it I'm going to be on there for a while?). Keep me doing something and going out of my head.
