hey i was messing round on a pc parts site putting together all the best stuff and i came up with this sytem for about £2223 which seems pricey but for what its got in it, it actually seems kinda resonable. so what you think?
motherboard - Asus M2N32-SLi-DLX nForce 590 SLi - £140
processor - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ 2.40GHz (Socket AM2) - £379
memory - Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-8500C5 TwinX (2x1GB) - £301
physx - Asus Ageia PhysX Accelerator 256mb - £170
graphics - Leadtek GeForce 7950 GX2 1024MB GDDR3
graphics - Leadtek GeForce 7950 GX2 1024MB GDDR3 - £689
power - Tagan TG1100-U95 1100W ATX2.01 Turbojet Quad SLi Silent PSU - £199
fan - Zalman CNPS9500-AM2 Aero Flower (Socket AM2/939/754) £29
Ditch the Physx card, nothing makes use of it at the moment and it puts more load on the graphics card. By the time anything worthwhile does, it will be cheaper. The 4400 would probably be a better value buy, possible even a 3800 and should overclock well. My 4400 is currently running at 2.6GHz. OK, so mine is Socket 939, not AM2, but the chances are good that you will be able to reach 4800 speeds but without the 4800 pricetag.
otherwise, nice rig. Just make sure that you get a nice big widescreen monitor, or your quad-sli setup will be wasted.

Very nice rig setup.
I would wait longer for Conroe TBH (I know this has been said alot lately, but it's true)
Plus, your Setup ATM is more the satisfactory!

I would agree. You could go the quad-sli route in your existing machine (which would kick ass) and then wait until the dust settles over the next battle in the CPU wars. AMD have some interesting technology in the pipeline regarding making multiple cores appear as a single CPU, thereby accelerating the performance of single-threaded apps. Since Conroe is also looking tasty, I'd hangfire for now when it comes to changing CPU or motherboard.
If you want my advice and assuming you really want to upgrade, replace the graphics cards and get yourself a nice big TFT monitor, at least 24" widescreen to make the graphics card upgrade worth it. If you really feel the need, upgrade the soundcard too, but I can't imagine it will be long before PCI-E soundcards are more common and even less reason remains to use PCI slots, so I would leave that as it is.
Cheers,
Stephen

Personally i wouldn't buy those 7950's they'll be replaced by DX 10 cards soon enough and you don't want to spend LOADS on them for them to be really out of date withing a year or so.

Agreed. Also, AM2 is not a great idea right now with conroe approaching, but then after that will be AM3, which will use DDR3 with quad core CPUs , and the DX10 cards should be out by then
Hmm, I would say that AM2 is a totally acceptable solution with Conroe coming.... but wait until Conroe arrives so that you can make some big savings...

hmmm, I think there is an echo in these forums...
Maybe I didn't explain what I meant very well
If you can't wait for AM3, wait for conroe then go AM2 for quite a lot less money

Seeming as the OP cannot be bothered with any replies, I see no reason to allow this to continue.
.........especially as it's turned into ANOTHER thread with the SAME members trotting out the SAME comments on AM3, AM2 and Conroe. Change the record.
