Hello, I was wanting some other peeps opinion.

I have an older pc with a Sempron 2800, 2.0 ghz. I was wondering if you think there would be a noticable difference if I was to upgrade to the Athlon XP 3200, 2.2Ghz?

I have an Abit NF7-S2G, http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/products.php?categories=1&model=205

The upgrade would cost approx. $130 or less.

I hear peeps talk about over clocking. Is there any noticable difference in doing this?
Any advise would be appreciated.
Thank You

Hello there.

Brief answer is, no, it's not worth it to upgrade the CPU.

Socket A is a dead end as far as spending money is concerned, I'd save up so that you can upgrade to the next generation.

What he said, 200MHz won't make much difference at all so keep your money for something more worthwhile.

Overclocking is free but to be honest if you have to ask the question you don't know enough to do it properly. Do some research on it using Google, that'll help you out a lot and then you can get help on any specific questions or problems you have with the process.

If you really want that difference - Put a bigger HS on your sempron and OC that to the effective clock speed, but to be honest, it's not really worth it - it is not a noticable difference anyway.

What are you wanting to do with the system anywho? Or is it just a general upgrade?

thanks for the replies!

This was an idea for a general upgrade. See I was also going to go from a 1 gig DDR to 3gig DDR. I was just thinking about maxing out this pc.

I play games from time to time. That is really the only time that I think about upgrading. Even when I'm working with graphics it is not to bad.

I guess I just woke up with a wild hair today and thought about upgrading. Maybe I should just leave this pc alone & buy a new 64 system.

Any suggestions on a 64 systems? I did build this pc, although I don't think I saved any money after purchasing M$ OS

Thank You

Go for an AM2 system, and get a dual-core processor for future proofing, as vista and future games will take full advantage of dual core

CPU from here: http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/AMD_Socket_AM2_940.html

And don't forget to get DDR2, not DDR: http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/DDR-II_Memory.html

Aherm...

The dollar currency would suggest the OP is from across the water somewhere?

Do you specifically want to stay with an AMD system?

Ebay Dude! He He

There is a buy it now at $125 w/$15 shipping :( it went up!

Oh well, I'll just look into the AM2/ Dual Core with the DDR2 like yal say. Seems better in the long run.

Thank You for the post and leads!

If you built that PC and you didnt save any money you must have been realy ripped off. Or did you get a retail version of windows? Get OEM! Exactly the same but without the retail boxeing and 100s less ( £ or $ ) just remember to get some hardware with it, might as well stay la jit.

Well, retail are OEM are not exactly the same.... If you bought retail the first time round, you can upgrade to a new system and take the OS with you. If it's OEM, you can't.
