Having had a look around the net, ive seen a number of NAS solutions (the hardware, not an OS, planning to use FreeNAS), does anyone use a NAS and could they recommend one?

Thanks, JesusH

best NAS for a local network is a Netgear SC101 takes upto 2 hds and just plugs into your router can have it so only cvertain pcs can acces each hd or run in raid.

The big problem with the Netgear vs's other NAS boxes is it requires you to install client software for you to be able to access it, this is currently only available for Windows

If you've got the money then the Infrant (http://www.infrant.com) NAS boxes look good :)

Do you mean like one of these? I think it prob has a little OS running from the hard ware leaving the hard drives free for data.

Linksys have a nice NAS solution that I nearly bought for one of my strange projects.
