A wee bit worrying considering its only 10 miles from my house, not been confirmed as the H5N1 strain as of yet but still scary!

Woot - maybe whilst your there the stain of virus from an infected bird will decide to latch onto you as a host and you will end up with it. Wonderfull.............
I've said it before, should it get announced that there's to be a mass cull. I'm ready to break out the shotgun and lots of ammo from back home.
Wonder how many seagulls, pigeons and owls I can bag, erm I mean cull....

Yeah!
Thanks, nice to see a good community spirit around here!
If this virus manages to reduce teh numbers of Seagulls and Pigeons in Scotland then it cant possibly be a bad thing

Sorry - Just in a weird mood, just been outside in the cold and dark in nothing but a tee-shirt at 2.5 degrees for 3 hours....not good. Feeling really strange for it. Just making the point that it wont be long before human cases are reported in the UK of this. Having said which, it could just be a huge media epidemic - Need I remind you all of the SARS Virus.....if any of you can remember :p - "...the equivilent to modern day plague, worldwide"......6 Chinese people dead from the virus....hmmm.......world wide epidemic.......god damn Daily Mail....

So you actually expected everybody in the "community" to laugh at such a stupid remark did you
I know t was meant to be light-hearted, but... given that this could prove to be a potentially very serious problem... it was sadly misplaced, and would've been better left unsaid IMO
Ok so maybe neither of the comments needed to be said but at least mine wasn't anything to do with someone I don't know catching a potentially very serious virus. I'm not that bothered by it and wasn't expecting an apology from him but I just thought it was a bit un-called for.
No I didn't expect everyone to find it funny I was just making light of the situation because so many people are over-reacting to it. I understand that it could possibly be a serious problem but until there is genuinely something to worry about, like an epidemic in humans, then I'm going to deal with it in my own way, through humour.
So lets just leave it now and say that I agree that maybe I shouldn't have said it in the first place, if that'll keep everyone happy.
Hope it doesn't come south
...
I don't think there have been any reported cases in scandanavia have there? They are all in europe so far, so if it came to the uk you would think it would have come up from the south of england, maybe its only a matter of time before cases are reported from where you live!
It'll be like 28 days later...but with alfred hitch****s the birds mixed in :p

Yeah heard this while i was eating my lunch, although they said this version is one of the deadliest it's also one of the hardest to spread.

No, not quite, its fairly easy for the h5n1 strain to pass bird to bird. For it to pass bird to human, you have to have prolonged contact with the infected bird.
Lets hope it doesnt mutate into human to human, which is the hard one to contract, as the disease infects deep in the lungs and other organs. Hence, the human strain is harder to contract, as it doesnt come from the nose etc.
If it does, were screwed.
as the disease infects deep in the lungs
That's not correct. Examination of the humans that have died from H5N1 flu has shown that the current strain multiplies in the lower region of the lungs. Thus, it is not so easily carried into an aerosol when breathing. Therefore, it doesn't spead between humans easily.
If the virus mutates so that it survives higher up in the lungs of humans, it would spread far more easily, and possibly lead to a worldwide pandemic.
The comment about SARS above makes a very good point. A lot of this is down to media overkill.
