Hi folks..

I am running 1 gig of ddram in my machine.. see signature..

my idea is to diable the swap file on my machine and force Windows to use my RAM..

is this idea feasible? i use the machine in a music studio environment..

thanks for your help in advance

You can do this, but Windows will always allocate 128Mb for some reason as virtual memory under Task Manager. I nearly always disabled the swap file on my old system which also had 1Gb of RAM & never had any problems.

You can also get Ramdisk XP pro and configure that as a ramdisk..pont windows to use that

Well, I was running 512mb of crucial Pc2100 with the Swap file disabled without any problems so 1gb should be MORE than adequate, a good recomendation is 768mb of ram and above.

you say it's a music workstation? sounds like your likelly to be swapping huge files about quite a lot, and since windows has some iffy memory issues, it may have problems when you load files in and out a lot, after some extensive uptime, and loading big things into ram, it tends to get cluttered, regular reboots should help (every 7days shoudl do it, assuming you even bother leaving it on 24/7)

but by all means give it a shot, you always have the option to turn it back on, and it should improve performance drastically, now off to try and fund a 1gig memory module :)
