So what do you think is the best Mp3/wav player and why. Never mind about skins. I liked Jet audio, And older version of Win Media player, (because it did everything, but!) but it is so clumbersome, now scrolling playlists is a pain. Any one know of a player that will convert and rename files? instead of having different progs for each. I know cool edit does all this but it is a different class really isn't it?

I would have to agree and say winamp, although i have found version 3 to be very buggy

Winamp v3 is horrid compared to the Winamp of old. I would rather use MusicMatch 7 now over others basically as it rips faster than any other I have found and plays back any audio format that I need. Also it came free with my Archos player :D

Well no justification for winamp except the name, so it looks like musicmatch wins, ta. I have a copy around somewhere.

In *nix:

GRIP for ripping to ogg vorbis
XMMS for general playing

In Windows:

CD-EX for ripping to ogg vorbis
Winamp 2.81 for playing

Winamp 3 sucks ass. Huge memory hog, slow, horrible HORRIBLE skins, and no ogg support last time I checked. Not recommended.

I really do have to praise CD-EX though. t's simply the best ripper out there, even better than the mighty GRIP.

And, of course, ogg vorbis beats mp3 trousers down :)

i have found the latest winamp3 good, got a good skin for it there is a few tiny niggles about it that were there in 2.8 but not real bugs and im overal impressed by it a few more releases and extra features and it will be fine, jsut gotta watch with somes skins they eat up the cpu cycles like nothing on earth with teh alpha thingy on that is
