I've got an XFX 7800GTX 256Mb and I'm wondering if it's worth getting an arctic silencer to go on it, theres the one on kustom for the 7800 series but theres also a new one out called the Accelero X1 http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=91.

Would I still have room for SLi later on with one of those (I'm on an asus premium board)? Also would it be significantly cooler and quieter than the stock HSF?

If it runs quieter and cooler that would be great, hopefuly allow me to squeeze a bit more out of the card :D and give me a bit more exhaust from the case.

I eventually want to give watercooling a shot but I think thats gonna have to wait a while, maybe for rig 2 when AMD launch thier new socket.

I don't doubt for a minute that any Artctic Cooling Silencer will be significantly quieter than the standard cooling... but I have my doubts you'd get away with that Accelero X1 if you intended going SLi later on?

You'd be best to wait until you've read a few reviews of it - coz they'll undoubtedly tell you/us whether it's usable in SLi mode or not ;)

i have an aritic cooler on my 9800 Pro and its silent when in silent mode and still quiet when its in high. i think if you want to do Sli you can have the bottom card with the aritic cooler.

My one takes up one slot on the back of the case and covers one PCI slot.

the premium boards have ALOT of room between the slots, so you COULD pull it off maybe, the only way to be sure would be to measure the gaps urself and check the clearance

I read somewhere somone managed to fit in 2 of the 512Mb 7800GTX's with the souble slot cooler so it should hopefully fit.

Is this a good Air Cooler for my XXX XFX 7800GTX. I want better temps and better cooling. Please advise me on air cooling.

i think the old style coolers are better, the accelero coolers push the warm air straight onto the mobo

Most third party coolers are better than the standard cooler fitted to the card when you buy it, but Arctic Cooling Silencers do so more quietly than the majority of others out there... so it's definately worth fitting one.

But without trying it first-hand, or reading a couple of reviews... it's hard to tell whether or not that particular cooler is any better/worse than their standard coolers?

I've a silencer, thousands of times better than the hairdrier stock on my 6800, I assume they're only gonna be better for the higher models
