Still bitter about missing the Salival dvd/cd box, I ordered the new Tool dvds the second I heard about them. Which was Dec 31st about 8pm. I had to order from Amazon US and pay more than the dvds cost in postage.

And they arrived today. And they are beautiful to behold. They even have booklets. And stickers on the front proclaiming new Tool stuff coming this year.

Which, if legend has it, is a new live dvd and a new studio album. I feel all giddy like a school girl at the thought of it.

I'm just so excited (can't wait to get home and fire these disks up) that I had to share with you all.

Sorry I can't share in your excitement, but that's you've lost me

Is it a music DVD? Is it a tool of some sort?

What on earth are you on about :D

Yea, I get that a lot these days.

Basically, Tool is the name of the band. The DVDs contain the music video an audio comentary (for the video) and a remix of the song. Nothing special, except Tool releases are usually rather thin on the ground. Like 5-7years between albums, without a peep from them in-between.

For added clarity, Salival was the name of their last release. A dvd of all the music videos on one disk, and a CD of live/new material (including 2 of the greatest pieces of music I have ever had the privilage to hear: Push-it (live and slow) and a hauntingly beautiful rendidtion of You Lied.)

Unfortunatly, I missed it when it was released, and thinking, "nevermind, I'll pick one up when they come back in stock" it never occured to me that it would be a strictly limited stock. So I never got it. But I am tempted by the (£80+) ones that sometimes pop up on eBay.

£80 is a lot for a dvd and cd, mind...

But I digress. I've probably made it worse now and confused you further. If all else fails, just listen to some Tool. (just search for a Tool fan on MySpace that has the music player, bobs your uncle, free legal music)

well, it has an art booklet too....

I know it really doesnt justify the cost...but i really want it.

If you ever hear Push It and then hear the Salival version of Push It, I think you'd understand. Its just stunning. literally.

But then so is You Lied. and LAMC if your up for a laugh/headache. (And maynards d**k, which is a catchy tune.)

The upshot...I recomend you listen to some Tool. Any song from any album. (although I have a heavy bias to the Laturalus album at the minute. It was only a few months ago that Ænema was far and away my fave.)

Laturalus is tottaly my fave Tool album too... They are indeed a stunning band :)

We all spend too much money on bands we like I guess... my sister had a smashing pumpkins vynal addiction, and the SP LPs arn't cheap as they're hard to find...

have you got/gonna get the new dvds?

they are Parabola and Schizm.

The audio comentary is on seperate channels (left & right) but both play at once. So to hear it properly, you have to disconnect one channel. heh.

and of course the menu is totaly non-descript, but i was expecting that. its just 3 buttons, no indication as to what they do. Its easier to navigate than the Salival DVD, but then again, pretty much everything in the world is.

Oh, I hear ye brother! :)

I get downright emotional upon a release of something special from a fave band. Gigs too, I chatter like a 5 years old afterwards, and am stuck on permanent positive mode (and positivity is extremely rare for me).

Maybe we should have an album review thread, wax lyrical about a fave CD. Fancy kicking it off?
