hi,
would like to overclock my machine specs are as follows

AMD 4000+ San Deigo CPU
ASUS AN8-SLI Premuim Mobo
2gb Crucial Ballistix DDR PC4000, 3-4-4-8, Unbuffered, NON-ECC, DDR500, 2.8V, 128Meg x 64
Gigabyte G-Power Cooler Pro
Club 7800GTX grafix card
2 x WD 74gb Raptors
2 x 300gb HD
Seasonic S12-600 - 600w PSU

I can't see cooling being a problem with the HSF i have, the case has excellent cooling being an Antec P180.

Never overclocked before but if someone can point me in the right direction i'd be grateful.

Cheers

I would also like to know what speeds this machine can reach, because my future machine is similar spec to TiSwAs's.

Drop HT/LDT multi to 3x/600 (not sure how ASUS describe it).
Increase external clock/HTT etc. (ditto above).

I have this hardware and I've been able to overclock the CPU to a stable 2.65Ghz with a heatsink and fan. You may want to consider replacing the passive cooling unit on the Asus A8N SLI Premium (if you haven't already). You might be able to get it to overclock further, depending on the stepping of the processor and a good water cooling kit will help.

hey guys,

I'm brank new to overclocking and i'm just getting my laptop in with an AMD 4000+ processor and i'm also going to pick up a cooling pad to keep the heat down (its from compusa with 3 fans to shuttle hot air away). Can you guys help guide me through overclocking the processor and other system components in order to increase the performance of my laptop? I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Jay

Welcome to the forums Jay ;)

I personally wouldn't recommend OCing a laptop - simply because of heat issues in such a confined enclosure!

Since you're going to pick up a "cooling pad" (I assume you mean a laptop cooler of some sort?)... you obviously realise that high performance laptops run pretty hot anyway. Trying to OC them further, could lead to all sorts of problems... not least of which is the potential to fry hardware

That's a damned fast CPU you've got there anyway... so I'd honestly forget OCing. Leave that for your desktop system :D

BTW: You're very welcome whatever your answer of course... but are you aware this is a UK-based forums... owned and run by the nice chaps @ Kustom PCs (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/)?
