Early this morning, 1 large and 2 more minor explosions shook the Buncefield fuel depot, near Hemel Hempstead. It's believed to have been an accident, but you can never be sure..

Que more panic buying at the service stations and fuel shortages. Exactly what you need for christmas.
My mum and dad were woken up by in at 6:00 and we live 30miles away in oxford!

Great, another excuse for the oil companies to up the price of fuel
Hope everyone's okay, although I somehow fear an explosion of this size is more than likely to take a few lives with it... it sounds massive :(
'Casualties are reported' apprently, I just hope it was an accident and not a terrorist attack, that would be the last thing we need before xmas.
It shook our windows and set of numerous car alarms in the neighbourhood - I live in Bedford, approximately 30 miles away. People have apparently already started panic buying petrol. God bless 'em.

I can't really see this being a terrorist attack - it's not really a prime target in terms of casualties. There are loads of depots around the country - including a big one not far from me - so not sure what you'd hope to gain by blowing one up?
It would be quite meaningful actually - many people think that most of what Blair/Bush do is oil related - i.e. you invade our countries to get oil & we'll blow the oil products up in yours...
I didn't hear it but at church this morning several people commented that they heard it around at around six o'clock. Of course I was asleep then and thus didn't hear anything! :)
Worst thing is we have a gas silo thing next to our skewl or in the grounds and there was a gas leak on friday. I want to get some advice on why they kept the school open.

Probably because the gas almost immediately dispersed beyond it's LEL.

I was watching on Sky News last night as my cousins and family live in Hemel, they are making people aware of any symptoms that could be casued by the smoke and fumes and have prepared the local GP clinics and hospitals. As for the wildlife they didn't mention anything which I thought was a bit off!

The BBC now reports that the fires at the depot are now extinguished and crews are continuing to douse the tanks to prevent them from re-igniting.

PC World HQ = Dixons HQ.
But they aren't allowed to swear before 9pm, so only said it was the Dixons HQ on the news.

I actually bought a BT Wireless card from PC World the other day! Turned out cheaper than a lot of places online! So I wont say anything bad!

I picked up a WD USB HDD a few months back using their pickup-in-store ding-dong. Cheaper than just about everywhere else and in my hands within an hour. Go PC-World
