is there an EVE player here? coz im nearly done playing WoW and im planning to try EVE online. Is this game really good?...ive seen the game trailer... i think its cool!

I play it and It's amazing! :) i'm sure Haz will post aswell because he also plays...It's such a fun game with soo many paths to take and not many limitations. I would deffinately reccomend it to you because its a great game, you can get a free trial from the EvE website here (www.eve-online.com) and if you talk to me in game i'm sure i'll be able to give you a hand.
If you take the time to really get into it it's great. Some people may get put off, due to the fact that it is a fairly complex game, and takes a while to get to grips with all the aspects of it.
I can't say whether ot not you'd find it more enjoyable/rewarding than WoW. I think it's mainly just personal preference with mmporgs.
The graphics are stunning, and the gameplay is great, if you need a free trail then I can mail you one.

I downloaded the game and its great! I love the graphics and the character creation is the most I like...I hope I'll get pass the tutorial bit...cuz I really wanna feel the game.

its not the same as the X games (i have X2 and X3) from what i can tell its more slower paced...
you cant directly controll the ship in EVE where as in X you actualy controlled the ship using your keyboard/mouse etc.
TBH its nothing like X other than you can trade, think fght, etc :p
Nebs join a corp, they should help you much better than the help channel. Avoid fighting bases corps to begin with, you will be too weak to fight other players until you are at least a month old.
The best way to learn is to watch what older characters in a corp do, then ask them why they did it. Most people love to explain how clever they are.
you can pvp from about 2 days in, just working as a tackler, you lack experience but within 2 days you can have the skills to whizz around in a speedy frigate warp scrambling ships so the bigger slower ships can deal the damage while you pin the target down. With some help on how to do it and ship setups etc from some older players.
I doubt you'll have good enough knowledge of the game to set your ship up properly and win many solo fights (unless your prey is afk/has no means to hit you back)
That's the great thing about EVE, anyone at any stage in the game can pvp, people 3 days old CAN kill someone who's been playing 3 years, it's ALL to do with intelligence and ship setups.
Not like in WoW for instance where a l60 would just 1 hit you all and that'd be that :p (not sure about other games other than WoW for how pvp works, but I imagine there's more with a similar 'omg noob I'm waaaay older than you so that means you have no chance of killing me, and I can kill you in a few seconds.)

i have around 500k (some very very nice person gave it to me) and ive learnt a few skills, etc, im thinking of buying a kestral soon (once i train my skills).
i like the idea of being able to do some pvp, what ship is decent for tackling then? i have a condor and a griffin at the mo.

Good. I would invite you into my corp, but we only take more experienced players at the moment, sorry.
Still you could always come and fight with us, then maybe after a few weeks you could join, but first find out if you like pvp/mining/maufacturing/hauling or anything else you can think of. There's no limits to how you make money, so just find something that you enjoy the most.
im thinking of training my skills for fighting/pvp.... not sure on what to train though.
quick question, how do you earn money in pvp? only thing i can think of is the loot? and maybe the bounty, if they have one? or would i have to do mining or something else to get decent money?

They already have many more players than any other race.
Another good thing about EVE btw, is it doesn't really matter what race you are, because anyone from any race can use any other race's ships, and all modules (you just need the appropriate skills). For instance I'm a Gallente who flies Minmatar almost exclusively.
Kopite, if you want to convo me in-game I'll help you with anything, answer any questions you have.
Nebs, the way you make money from PVP comes from 2 main sources.
If you blow up another player they'll drop loot which you can then sell for isk. Or you could refine it (into minerals) and then sell that for isk if the loot is really bad. (I tend to just take valuable loot and don't bother with refining stuff)
The other method is by ransoming people. This involves you attacking a person until they are low into armour/structure, then opening up a convo and saying bascially something along the lines of 'oi, give me money or I'll finish you off), (you can also ransom their pods, because if people have implants then it would make more sense for them to pay you off than die, and have to buy new implants.)
This is called pirating, it's what I do. I make most of my money from collecting the other player's loot after they've exploded and selling it, I sometimes ransom, but only if I think i'll make more money from the ransom than I would from blowing them up and selling their loot.
I also like to tie in some role play if I ransom them, just because I find it funny :P
If I ransom you, the convo might go something like this:
me: Ahoy matey,
me: 10 mill for yer boat or I blow ya out of the sky, arrr.
me: Ye got 15 seconds, if I don't see me wallet flashing within 15 seconds then I'll blow you to smitherines, yarr arr.
victim: (they'll either say): 'no way man **** off, you ****ing scum bag, I'm going to kill you in real life you think you're so big ****ing killing noobs ****er, die!.
- I do love smack talk.
Or they'll say 'yeah, wait a sec'
Then they'll either actually send you the money, or keep making up crap like 'oh, I've only got 3 mill' which is utter bull****, they just don't want to pay you, or they'll try to stall you so they can get 6000 of their buddies to come and gank you. But I'm not stupid, just stay alert and finish them off quickly if they donj't pay, be ruthless and don't allow them any extra time.
Now, I don't know if you'll understand all of that, EVE is a huge game and you have lots to learn :)

Well, sort of. Some battleships can withstand the weapon if set up properly, but then again i wouldn't have thought that a titan would be all to good for belt piracy, or wars in high sec, seeing as it can' even get there.
So yes, in 0.0 it is sort of, an I-win button.
Seeing as EW can't intefere with it. So you can't stop it from running away.

For a good fighter, the quick guide is
Caladri-Achura-Stargazer with 3 points in perception and 2 in intelligence
Then choose as many frigate skills as you can, should end up with Frigate level 4
Buy a Merlin frigate
Do level 1 missions
train your learning skills up to level 2
train rockets and small hybrid turrets
train basic navigation, electronic, mechanic skills to level 2
Join a corp
Also sell the implant that you get at the end of the tutorial missions for about 1mil (price depends upon which implant you got)

ive just brought the full game so i may start again... can i transfer all of the items, ships and money from this character onto my other character (on the new account), and then delete the character on my trail account and remake it on the new one? this way ill get all the items etc onto my new account and also get the same name... and i also get to create my character again = ]

For fighting you should use a Merlin or Kestral, not a Griffin.
Trial accounts have restrictions on them. I think you have to run both accounts at the same time, make your 2 characters meet, jetteson your stuff from 1 ship and have your new character take it (steal it)
You can try transferring isk but it may not work.
If you had paid for your original account, created a new character on that account, your old character could have given all his stuff to the new character without any problem.
(Each account can have 3 characters)

there wasnt an option to upgrade the trail account using a CD key though, so i had to make a new one.

Use escrow..
I think you cna on a trial account, when in station go to to right hand side 'missions tab' then click 'escrow' and escrow everything you own for 0.00isk to your new char, and MAKE SURE it is ONLY available to your new character, otherwise someone else will just claim it and you'll have nothing left :)
Pretty sure it tells you how to use escrow in the tutorial me thinks?

hehe shame i lost 2 kessies while waiting though... =[ i was in 0.4 space and i thought id try attacking someones gargo thing.... those nasty turrets killed me in seconds =[ i then went to fly out in my abis to get my cargo back and they blew that up...
so i waited for the countdown thing in red to stop then i went out in a NEW kessie... and they blew me up AGAIN!! lol im guessing it was because of the yellow counter? or will they always blow me up from now? :s

You have to wait for the red 15 min countdown to dissapear before you're safe from sentries. This timer is reset whenever you are spotted by the sentries again (warping to a gate or station will reset the time) You canot sit out the timer in station, the countdown pasuesand then goes back to 15 mins when you undock. Best bet is to roam aroun belts killing rats or sit in a safe spot etc.
ah well in that case i was screwed any way, as soon as i got out of the station they killed me :pim now stuck in a station in 0.4 space with 2 pirates waiting for me... im in an abis lol =] im sure they are gone now though.
just lost quite a bit of money though =[

Only reason i got bored of that game was ebcause......mining is lame, way too boring. PvP was ribbish because it was never 2 vs 2 or teams around that, it was usually 20 vs 1 or 2 which was pointless ;)
Also nearly all of the complex's were camped so as soona s the goodies respawned other people were already there to take it :cool:

I've been flat out ganking everything I've seen for about 3 months, now -10 and I've only had 2 increases in my bounty, someone put about 5 mill on me, and the other something like 300k, It's really hard to get people angry enough to put bounties on you, because everyone knows the system is completely exploitable and it's a waste of the bounty-givers money.
But if you want to come and try and kill me you're more than welcome. :p
EDIT: Tbh you never gave pvp enough of a chance Cod Ball, when we did start to get into it (pvp), that's when you stopped playing, I've had many 1 v 1s and other small gang (fairly even/fair) engagements, great fun. :D
Although by far the most satisfying is killing people when the odds are against you,
like last week I was in the middle of killing a hauler in my rupture, when a thorax and that amarr drone cruiser (coecer or something) jumped me, so I killed off the hauler, killed the thorax, and then the Coecer, It was a very close fight, and the odds were against me, but I did win and it felt great :).
The adrenaline rush from EVE pvp is like nothing else I've experienced.
Some fights get your heart really pumping!

how do pirates operate then? ...seems fun =]
I do several things.
Sit at stations/gates tanking sentry guns and shooting at stuff that I can kill in 1 or 2 vollies (hopefully haulers carrying lots of expensive goodies)
Or roam the belts either killing things, or sometimes (if I think it's worth it) ransoming them, which I believe I explained earlier)
Of course, all this killing of innocent people has it's consequences,
You can't enter 0.5 security space and higher once you are of -5 sec status or lower.
Any player can attack you without recieveing a sec hit themselves, and without Concord's interference (this also includes sentry guns interference at gates/stations etc in low sec) if you are -5 or worse.

I took a break from EVE for about 2 weeks, I got really ****ed off after I lost 1bill isk in 3 days, from losing ships/modules, all the losses were due to lag.
I've started playing again now I've calmed down, but if the lag continues I doubt I'll continue playing, it's a shame because it really is an amazing pvp game, losing things to lag is so ****ing frustrating.
I might send you an eve-mail Euphoria, you need to get into PVP asap, none of this mining crap :p.
EDIT: looks like you're already in an aspiring pirate/pvp corp.
and you're minmatar, I fly minmatar, It's 'hard mode' basically, some really good ships, but you need pretty good skills (both players skills and skill points) to fly them effectively.

New Update:
I'm doing really well i'm caldari and fly a caracal, i've been mostly training my support skills such as electronics/engineering/shield trying to maximise my damage/tanking ability, I fly for Creative Industries it's a good little corp thats doing really well lately, we've just recruited several new olderplayers that have pretty much transformed a fledgling corp to become a mojor corp in our constelation, were even absorbing other corps into our ranks!

so convo me ingame if you want to join our corp we recruit anyone accross the sp range. Most of our members solo mission run or do high lvl 4's together.
Were based in 0.5 with access to POS's for research and building.

I highly doubt EVE 2 will come out as EVE is more evolution than revolution through the patch system, and if you find eve boring then you should do something else. EVE is a sandbox you've got to use your imagination to make it fun, your not spoon fed drivle like 90% of most games, thats what makes eve so awesome it's a player driven game CCP just maintain it.

Well that's going to happen with everything you play....unless you start playing when it was first comes out, i've not been playing that long and my charachter isnt very good (i stopped for 6 months and restarted so i lost my good charachter :() but the corp i'm in are really supportive and thats whats keeping me in the game.

You should be ok if you stay in the high security zones, that way if people attack you they will be shot down by the security people! Only when you go out into the 0-0 type areas you'll die!

You should be ok if you stay in the high security zones, that way if people attack you they will be shot down by the security people! Only when you go out into the 0-0 type areas you'll die!
You'll also die of boredom! Although some people seem to just stay in high sec all the time and whore level 4 missions, pff.

I remember you sayin about that, gutted, I've just started with the whole implant thing, just got myself my first set of +1 implants. i've thought about the skill implants, but i don't want to put all my eggs in the same basket, i think i'm still a little bit to vulnerable in my cruiser, lol.
Lately me and a corp mate have been sucking pirates into fights in the two lowsec systems by our home system. I war around finding pirates in my cruiser, lock on, they fire back and then my corp mate warps in in a BS and wtfpwns them Yarr, were ganged and cos they start the fight we don't get sec decreases, we think that theres a bunch of 14 year olds there thats why there so stupid! but we do send them isk sometimes if they're genuinely new! you know to cover expenses, HAHA! :)

Cool euphoria, i'm in a much better corp now, if you fancy PVP'ing (aka pirating) where involved in a few wars but have real good friends in a very PVP experianced gang who are helping us evolve, we mostly mission run for isk but PVP'ing is becoming a way of life, we have a good range of new to old players, we offer a 2 week trial for new members where we get to know you and vice versa. so if you see me in-game (Christoffski) convo me, we are based in empire still so were not too hardcore yet. We are very n00b friendly.
I'm still playing. I'm in October Snow now, lol. Most of you who play probably know of us. Lets see if I can get 10 pages of flames from posting here like on the eve forums :p. (seriously) -.-

To be honest, This is more of the WoW Sucks Bandwagon. with out any merrit. I think a lot of games suck. And have played most of them. Like Eve. I dont like how the skill system works. Takes to long to start playing.and have fun. and i never did enjoy being a hauler or a miner for the crp i was in when i did play. found my self wasting 6 hours a day stearing at a Rock. but anyways. thereare thousands of MMO's out there. Most people will only find one or two that they like. i have played a lot of MMo's before wow. i originaly plyed Ultima Online. 10 years ago. YES 10 years. and that game is still running. and i have learned one thing. You never base a games quality on Fanboys. or roumers. Wow isnt tat spectacuiar when you look at it. and i dont realy Love blizzard. and i dont realy like the leveling up system. But the endgame content where your part of a team when raiding beats anything i have tryed thus far. and all the leveling up is worth it. wow has 6 million subsribers.so it must be doing something right to keep all those numbers.
I don't think WoW sucks as such, I just think it's completely overrated. The PVE is good, the PVP is just boring IMO, solely because when you die, you just re-spawn and start again, you don't really physically lose anything, and the person who killed you doesn't really gain anything, which keeps all the 13 year old kiddies happy. If they implemented meaningful PVP with loot and consequences of killing/being killed then I think they'd lose a lot of their player base.
Oh, and also space ships > elves.
EDIT: Just because something is popular doesn't always mean it is good, like the iPod for instance, although maybe I shouldn't have said that, not sure if we could handle an 'EVE vs WoW vs iPod vs all other mp3players thread. :(
I think the reason WoW is popular is because it appeals to younger kids (no offence) and because 'everyone else plays it'. In the same way loads of people want an mp3player, they don't eve look at the other options, they in some cases don't even know they exist, they just get an iPod and think nothing more of it, I think WoW is slightly this, but on the MMORPG level.

Well i've been having so much fun lately in eve. With my main and our corp we ventured into 0.0 alliance stuff and have our own system in providence in CVA space. But anyway one night i started a new minnie character and decided to have a little fun. Well i ended up creating our own corp, Tough Luck, full of mis fits turning all the n00bs in the area into pirates, it's great. We've got about 10 <10 day olds running around stealing and causing havok in the heimatar region. We did so well that we ended up being the focus of a 90+ anti pirate alliance!!! We we're camped for a week by vets in t2 ships!! And we also made 150mil in a week from war ransoms!! How nice is that??
Hows everyone else doing? Jacob do you do anything but play eve? Whats your name i'll look you up one night?
Btw we have a forum, not much and definately not a competitor to kustomPC's (it's a tough luck only forum) it also has a blog from me of thingw se've been up to. check it out if you wanna know what eve is about when your young...

well i started playing again after the EVE promotion. not sure what to do or where to go but im having fun again in eve. on my 3 and ahalf year old nub character! im just runnign around doing level 1 angent missions. not realy sure what to do after that :P
