I've been reliably informed that The Most Excellent Adventure Psyconauts is finnally reaching UK shores this month.
Not that I'm fussed, I bought mine in August from the Double Fine website and even got it signed ^_^
Its not that the game is so innovative, so much as the sheer quality of the writing. The game itself is a fairly standard 3rd person adventure-em-up but the cut-scenes and the dialogue throughout....beyond words.
Brings back the good old days of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango.
So....what I'm trying to say, is GO BUY THIS GAME (when it comes out).
If developers like Double Fine are rewarded with sucess...then they will make more games. Good game designers deserve my money. Its a simple formula, but its one I believe in. Its why I havent bought BattleField 2 (grrr EA, you smell, boo hiss, etc etc) but I bought Republic: The Revolution (haven't really played it, mind, I dont understand a bloody thing in it ^_^ ) and Evil Genius (I miss Elixir). But I digress...
**edit**
Well....my sources suck! Turns out 2nd of December is a more likely date. The rest of my tirade is still relavant though...
You said the magic words, MONKEY ISLAND.
Is it really that much like it? If so, I'll buy mine in December.

The guy who helped write Monkey Island 1 & 2 (Tim Schafer) and also Grim Fandango and Full Throtle (and some of Day of the Tentacle) made Psyconaughts with his own game company (after he left LucasArts) called "Double Fine".
So, yes, if you found the dialogue in those games funny, you will find Psychonauts funny too. Just be warned, as I said before, the game itself isn't anything too special (I'm not saying its bad, cos its not, its just not ground breaking).
There is usually a demo on the 2nd side of the PCZone DVD (heh my fave PC mag) or I'm sure you can download the demo from somewhere. I can't vouch for the demo, mind, I havent played it...but I'm sure its great. Try it, I know you'll love it.
Turns out 2nd of December is a more likely date.
I'm afraid my 2nd December is being taken up by my XBOX 360!!!!
Ahem... i'll take a look at Psyconauts though

You'd spend silly money on a crappy next gen (just wait for the Revolution, like all the cool kids are doing) consol but wont shell out £30 odd (or whatever new games cost these days) on the greatest game you'll ever own?
Its also out on the PS2 and Xbox, and while I'm not a fan of cross-platform conversions, I doubt they would change the script between versions, so grab what ever one takes your fancy... (it is quite suited to a gamepad, being a 3rd person runny-jummpy-picky-up style game).
Why not bring in your new consol with a new game from the old system (the xbox is backward compatabile, innit?)?

I looked into this some time ago and couldn't be bothered to order it from the US. If its going to have a Uk release then I'll definetly get it.
i never played the earlier games like grim fandango or day of the tentacle, but I've been told that they really are hilrious games and are well worth the money.
2nd December is only a few weeks away 8o)

The good thing about Grim Fandango (other than everything, I mean) is that you can pick it up for £2.99 at Gamestation! £2.99!
The only problem with it though is that it kinda dislikes HyperThreading from what I remember. The solutions are (a) disable it in the bios while your playing it ,(b) fire up that old 486 in the corner and play it Win98 style or (c) set processor affinity in task manager to only use one processor. Theres a way you can do that permanantly, instead of each time it starts, but the link for it is at home.
There may even be a patch for it these days...

I'm gonna bump this 'cos I'm excited (for you. no reason for me to be excited, I already got the game).
Play.com are selling it for £17.99. You can't argue with that.
Really. Try and argue with that. I dare you.
*edit*
I neglected to mention, its out on the 10th of February

I was having a look on Play.com myself the other day - I'm moving house soon so believe it or not, I'm not actually going to buy it straight away
i'm going to wait until my life is a little clearer and savour the game. I hate when you rush through a game and miss all the little addition the developers spent so long to include

hooooge bump.
Totally forgot to order this game and then if by magic Steam the love of my PC life offers it to me on a high-speed optical platter.
I downloaded the game last night, played 15 minutes of it this morning and I'm desperate to get home and play it again.
It cost me $23 and change - total bargain.

Good stuff! The more people that buy it, the more money DoubleFine will have for upcoming games.
I <3 Double Fine !!

Have completed half of this game now and I have to say it's just great fun.
It's not hard, it's fun. It's not child like, it's fun. It's not realistic, it's fun.
If anyone has a spare $23 then go and buy this game. Just lots of fun !
p.s. the milkman bit is the best !
(and some of Day of the Tentacle)
OMG! this was officially the best game of my childhood!!!!! i can't remember what happened at the end though...

I really really really enjoyed the Gogolor section inside Linda's mind....that cracked me up every time...especially the puppy orphanage comments.
Actually, I was suitibly impressed the other day. I had someone recognise my Psychonauts tshirt. It's quite subtle as well, it doesn't necesarrily scream Psychonauts. http://shop.doublefine.com/productimages/brown_shirt.gif
That's not me, btw....you might be fooled by the hair.
