Has anyone ever had a problem like this when playing CS:S

Nvidia drivers are all upto date and it doesn't seem as thought the gfx card is overheating cos the problem comes and goes irregularly :(

Yep. Basically, I had exactly the same on my XFX 6800GT. Turned out the reason was that the GPU was running at over 135c and therefore cooking itself. Ended up doing an rma on the card.

mmm slightly concerning considering thats exactly the same card as I have, but its not quite getting as hot, hottest I have seen it is 71 degrees.

gpus are like upto 120ish so 71 should be alright? :S

Can't exactly remember, some sort of Glabal WIN 500w thing, had it for about 3 years, i needed a molex to pci-e convertor for it though, I'm getting one of these (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1729.html) in the next few days which has a proper pci-e power connection on it. Think that would help solve the problem?

Ok now thats just annoying, I played CS for 3 hours on Thursday and nothing, now I play FEAR for 30 mins and it happens in that now. Think it could be my card, could it be faulty?

in fear?! wierd.. never seen it in fear, maybe it is the card.. is any part of it exremely hot, like a plate or something? there was this odd plate on some part of my 9800 and it stopped doing gayness after i stuck on some ramsinks on it

The heatsink for the GPU covers the RAM sinks too, none of it seems to be too hot either, the backplate is barely lukewarm and the front is the same.

i dont actually mean the ram, i mean more near the outputs on the none heatsinked side, there were some kind of voltage converters or something, never found out.. but ther was a plate on it, and it was ****in red hot once.. so i put some sinks on it, solved the problem till i got the new psu to sort it perma like. :S dno if u don't have it..

i used to have the same problem with HL DM. same reason. I just went ahead and bought a second 120mm fan and an aftermarket fan for my video card...
