View Full Version : PS2 v PC
Hey all!
I can't wait for the latest installment of Tomb Raider (Legend) and would like ur advice on which platform to use! Since day one I've played the TR series on the PS/PS2 but seeing as I now have my brand spanking new lappy I'm tempted to go for the windows version. Crisper graphics and no doubt there would be more download options (new maps/etc) but what about the controls?
The only type of games I play on the PC are FPS (beats consoles hands down) but I can't imagine a platformer playing well with a keyboard/mouse, surely a controller would be more suitable?

always found tombraider easier with a joypad! - six
id say controller.. enter the matrix wasn't bad on it...
but then again i abhore PS2's.. so i'm probably not the best person to ask
I first played the original Tomb Raider years ago on the PC. If I recall correctly, it was the arrow keys for movement, space bar to shoot, left alt to jump and left ctrl for action. It worked great, and I remember playing with a friend. One of us would do the movement whilst the other would do the jumping.
The latest TR I played was Chronicles, also on the PC. I noticed they had refined the controls quite a bit, and I've no doubt they will refine them further with the next installment.
However, keys on the keyboard are digital and so you'll never have it quite as smooth as you would with an analogue controller, but it's certainly bearable (although if you're used to a controller for games like this it might take a little while to get used to it). The PC version definately accounts for the digital keys, particuarly in the newer games, and the whole thing feels far less jerky.
After you get past the controller the PC version is arguably superior in every way; graphics, audio, etc.
The best part, though, has to be the quicksaving. I'm not sure if that's in the console versions, but in the PC versions you can save and load at the touch of a key - great for those times when there's a tricky jump you keep missing :)
Finally, don't forget you can get the best of both worlds using a PS2 controller (http://play.com/play247.asp?pa=srmr&page=title&r=PC&title=114167) on your PC. :D
erm... buy a joy pad for your laptop?
Problem solved... I play all games like GTA, FFXI, NFSu with my joypad...
Aye get a joypad for your pc. If you really want to you could get a ps2 controller then use the adapters play sell for less than a tenner.

how about getting the xb360 version....................
I was under the impression xbox 360 pads would only work under windows vista which will have drivers for them? Didnt they take out the quick release feature of the original xbox controllers?

Does sound tempting and I suppose a year is long enough to save up for another console. Although, I always thought that it *could* be a little pointless getting both consoles because so far, so many games that I like, have been on all or both PS2 and XBox platforms so just by getting one of them I'll be able to play alot of the games that have been released on the other.
