We're expecting X850 'Master' cards to arrive within the next couple of weeks...

So is there anyone out there itching to make the splash into 'Crossfire' dual ATI graphics cards?

Interested to hear opinions / thoughts...

(see here (http://www.club-3d.nl/product_explanation.php) for blurb on Crossfire)

I was on another forum recently and they were talking about the cards being here before the boards...another ATI PR job done well ;)

I was interested 3 months ago, but now Nvidia all the way. Might change over when the 'new' generation go that way. Unless performace is as good as they say it can be...

i know its kinda off topic but which is better between that/1800series/7800 cos i just got myself an Asus SLi going for a 7800 and now i'm thinking should i have stayed or gone for the 1800series

1800XL is better for Direct3D (most games) 7800 for OpenGL (doom 3 and Quake). to be honest the standard 1800XL is the same as a 7800 (from the reviews I've seen) and so its horses for courses. The XT is better but then the XT version is a lot more cash than a 7800GTX, almost as much as 2 x 7800GT's!

Fair enough.. might as well stay with what i have just ordered ==> Asus SLi/BFG 7800GT etc

perhaps I got the games mixed up then, but the 7800 is better in Open GL and better in Doom 3 so I think thats where I got my assumption from...

So far as I am aware, all the games based on the Quake3 and Doom 3 engines have been OpenGL.

Cheers,

Yip - All ID games and games based on ID engines are OpenGL. The Half-Life ones had a Direct3D option but it wasn't as good as the native OpenGL engine.

Yeah.

I'm an unrelenting Ati Whore ... more specifically a Sapphire ATI whore.

Around Jan I may consider an X1800XT depends on how big the crimbo bonus is.

ive seen the saphire crossfire boards on the net, im holding out for dfi's offering, supposedly its sky blue. i hope they do a lanparty crossfire mobo though, and base it on the amazing ati reference board, apparently its an amazing overclocker.

In stock elsewhere in the UK for £155 - that's a lot to me for a mobo.

Thought i might add to the subject that the ati X1000 series cards beat the 7800gtx at high res with aa ect, we have had a preview of a memory mapping fix for cats. (will be released in next cats) that beyound3d got gains of up to 36% in opengl games
