I had a phone call yesterday offering me a weekend job in an electronics shop. I was happy to accept since i have been looking for a job for a while now.

But, i get a phone call today and was told that because im not 17 yet and in full time education at college (17 on january 11th) that i can only work 2 hours a day between sunday and friday, so no point coming in on those days. So now im on saturdays only 9am-6pm.

I think that sucks. What can anyone do in 2 hours??? who makes these stupid laws?

Am i the only one who thinks this is stupid???

Yes, have a bloody childhood!

The purpose of the law is to prevent you throwing away your education by doing too much at work at not enough studying. Once you're 18 you can do what you like, so whilst you are still technically a child, you may as well enjoy being one. It's a hell of a long time to retirement!

Hmmm I never had that trouble...

I used to do College from 08:30 till 15:00 jump in my car and do 16:00 - 22:00 at the local warehouse. Did that monday to Friday. Was only 17 then...was bloody long days but I had fun and was the minted come the weekend.

Who needs a childhood.

When I was 16 (a long time ago!) I used to work 4 hours on thursday & friday nights and then all day saturday. In those days you had to seek permission from the school to do those hours. I seem to remember that the headmaster signed a card which you took to your employer enabling them to employ you for those hours. I believe the idea was that if it was determined that working those hours was affecting your school work then the school could contact your employer and reduce your hours or prevent you from working. As there were no problems with school work that system seemed to work great for me but I'm not sure if that's still the case.
