Have you ever been thinking about a game from the past and thought, you know that was really good.

More over, at the time perhaps you were a teenager unable to afford the game, or had a computer that couldn't play it, and you think now, you know it would be great to go back to that, I should be able to pick it up in the bargain bins or second hand easy enough, and computers being 10 times faster than the minimum requirements I'll have the game running nicely, and be transported back to an era gone by.

This is exactly the feeling I got recently when something someone said made me think of Star Trek Klingon Academy. It was a ground breaking game graphics wise because as you shot up the federation ships they blew up in bits, i.e you could actually destroy half of a saucer section on the Enterprise and see burning decks and debris flying.

Of course to look at it now it looks below average, but I wanted it just for old time sakes, could I find it? Could I nothing!

Game Station (http://www.gamestation.co.uk/product.asp?id=10117140292064) list it for £20 but not surprisingly it's out of stock, and I doubt it's coming in on the next load if you know what I mean.

It's on amazon used from £40 (since I made this there has been a new one added at £20 but with no manual).

basically it's a rare game and I can't help feeling it's such a shame.

Has anyone else ever felt like that, when you think back to a game that you enjoyed, or maybe missed out on, and feel compelled to find it?

I've been trying to find the original wiupeout for some time now. Be damned if I can find it. Great game but more to the point I wanted the amazing sound track :(

Dude I've got wipe out somewhere.... It's a bitch to make it run on a modern PC though, and it doesn't work with USB gamepads :(

But I might be able to dig it up...

I mean the PS1 game. It had a soundtrack that you could play on a CD player.

If you had that it would be awesome tho :D

I know its not stupidly old but at the time my pc couldnt handle alien vs predator to its full potential it ran like a 2 legged dog. so id like to have a bash at that again because from what i remember it was a top game... the alien was the crappest out of the 3 characters though ha ha ha :)

My favourite "old" game was Bioforge. What a great game that was!

The original Civilization is perhaps my all-time favourite game. Unfortunately now I've seen good graphics I just can't go back to it, and it doesn't run on my current computer anyway (well, last time I tried at least :()

Damn, that game was awesome, you could get caught up in it for days, weeks.

I heard that David Braben is working on something huge for his next project. Something which will have large universes and solar systems.

I used to love Repton on the BBC, could never get into Elite.

Downloaded a BBC emulator a while back and got it to run. I was in a good mood for days, looked forwards to coming home from work and having a dash round avoiding the boulders. :)

Hey Slamdog, if you're interested David released elite 2 as a freeware game a while ago, you can pick up the file at frontierverse.com
http://www.sharoma.com/frontierverse/files.htm <-- the top one in that list.

And pdf27, I don't know if it was the same thing, but i still find myself going back to the original settlers game.

I also about 6 months ago re-discovered the amiga :D I used to have an A1200 upgraded, I played worms DC so much/ The emulators are so good now, and legal, check out http://www.amigaforever.com/ for a completly legal emulator, then head over to www.dream17.co.uk who have been given permission by Team 17 to host the ADF(floppy disk files for amiga emu) of the original worms games, worms DC was an amiga only version and was the best! 8)

Jet Pac on the Speccy. Me and a friend used to go halfers on a game each month and take it in turns who got the proper inlay and who got the photocopy.

Another I could play for hours was Buggy Boy on the 520ST

I've been talking to some friends about this over the last week.

Currently i'm trying to find a copy of Twisted Metal World Tour for the Playstation. I remember playing it back in about 1996 at about the same time as International Track and Field (how many controllers did I break...?). I never owned the game at that time though and it's quite hard to find. There's a few copies on eBay at knocked up prices that if i'm silly enough one night I may be tempted with.

An online version came out a few years ago I believe and at that time the publishers/distributors pulled TMWT from the shelves

Another good game, and certainly one that was at the start of "Tycoon" themed games was Transport Tycoon Deluxe.

If you've got a copy of this kicking around then look at OpenTTD (http://www.openttd.com/) - an Open Source Clone that simply needs a few files from the original game CD to run.

I still give it a few hours of my time quite regularly.

Open TTD is great to say the least!

TT was good before, but open ttd makes it nice and easy to play.

And Abe, Twisted Metal's coming out for the PSP... cant wait for it!

Has anyone else ever felt like that, when you think back to a game that you enjoyed, or maybe missed out on....

My first machine was a Dragon 32. Cuthbert In The Mines was my obsession.

Later came Airball and Shock Trooper. The one game that I shall never forget stumped me was Aquanaut 471. I even wrote to Microdeal asking for help :o I recall some dreich coming back about them moving premises. Gutted.

I still have it in the loft! Back at school, years ago, I once obtained an Electron and Plus 1, in exchange for a bicycle inner tube

I used to love Repton on the BBC....

Awww, Repton was the business, was it not?

I still have all my old machines in the loft. I wonder if I could load up Aquanaut 471 and beat it. That would life changing!

Planescape:Torment. love this game so much, but its too ugly for me to play. Feels like my eyes bleed when i start it up.

Thou strangly, i can always fire up Fallout and Fallout 2. thier graphics never seem to bother me.
