View Full Version : Black & White 2, September 27th!
Recently Peter Molyneux said that B&W2 would be finished by the 24th of August, and in stores on September 27th. What's more, he said that they'll be a special version which will allow access to the Tiger as a creature (and, I'm assuming, other goodies)!
Not sure how many B&W2 fans there are on this forum, but personally I am looking foward to this game a great deal. The fact that it retains all the fun "god" stuff of the original, and yet manages to bring a full-featured strategy game to the table sounds like a big accomplishment, and from what I've seen, they pull it off remarkably well. Sending your army to war whilst chucking boulders at the enemy troops is a cool prospect, as Peter Molyneux notes in his talk (how many other strategy games are there where you can manipulate physics to your advantage, curse enemy troops with miracles or send your creature on a violent rampage into an enemy town.
But hey, enough of my chattering, you can find the video where Peter announced all this stuff on this website (http://lionsource.planet-multiplayer.de/download/dl.php?id=534). It's from a german talk show, but fortunately Peter talks in English after the initial introduction. He talks over actual gameplay footage, describing most of the defining aspects of B&W2 in detail. If you haven't kept up to date with B&W2, this video should fill you in.
I'm about to start downloading the video now, it sounds very very promising!
And out preetty soon (at the start of the new uni year though!)

I think I'll watch peoples reactions to this one for the first month. The original had it's great points but also had some very annoying things that stopped me completing it.
The silly vilagers were too demanding and my creature was always incredibly thick, no matter how many times I showed him to be nice.
The video looks interesting though, I like the city building and RTS elements.

That video was interesting. Haven’t really been following this game much, however from watching the video, I'm impressed. I really liked the first one, up until your creature was taken away! :(
The RTS elements look good and I like the fact it doesn’t have a population cap :D
Yah, big fan of the first game, will defo get the second installment :D

Yeh the villagers were a real pain, and do they ever rest rfom reproducing  as for the creature if you work at it for long enough you can get what you achive, especially if you use the ape who can just pick up the bubbled miricals and learn them.

I spent ages trying to teach my creature, half the time I chose the ape, others I had the cow or turtle. Tried using the extra worlds where there were loads of miracle dispensers because in the normal game worlds I wasted so much time with the creature that the villagers suffered from neglect
Most of the time the creature got bored very quickly and wandered off, then if I disciplined him into watching me he'd become more evil. Then he'd just destroy villages and eat people. I did manage to teach him to throw his poo around though, I was trying to get him to fertilise the fields :o
In that video it seems to show you what the creature has last done and how much your praise is effecting him, if thats in the final game then it could make teaching him a little easier.

I'm not a gamer but it does sound like all this stuff is just Tamagotchi-for-Geeks?

Well depends, in tamagotchi's can you build cities, have to try and keep the villagers happy, use spells and do you have little sub missions you can do? Do you teach your creature how to help you with your cities or how to do hundreds of other things?
All you have to do with tamagotchi's is feed, bath, play.........let it sleep...feed, bath, play etc.

Still sounds like Tiny-Tears on steroids to me! :p
Still, if it teaches you all to be better parents to the next generation, who am I to take the piddle?

I'd say that would be a reasonable account of the original B&W, but in B&W2 they're putting alot more emphasis on the strategic side of the game. Aside from having the same, successful, god-simulator formula of the original, they've also added a full real-time strategy game in there, too. Naturally the two parts can intertwine if you wish, or you can focus on one or the other. How many RTS games are there where you can chuck rocks and trees at oncoming troops, or demolish an enemy's base with a giant creature? :)
Big Adam, i bet you if u installed B&W on your system u will be hooked! Its old but different, B&W2 will be a smash hit!
