I've recently started playing around with trying to get my laptop to display on my TV. It has an S video port, so I've connected it straight to the TV's S video port with an S video wire supplied with an old graphics card. To my surprise, the image comes up on screen, the only problem being that its in black and white. Put simply, how can I get it to display in colour?
i wonder if the laptop is outputting an NTSC signal, your TV being a PAL display.
NTSC images often display in B&W on a PAL display.
check your vga settings to make sure it's outputting in PAL.
I;ve the same problem. It turned out to be a faulty s-video cable in my case. one of the wires was broken inside the cable.
Most new tvs automatically detect and adjust for PAL/NTSC.
Try the easy things first tho. go with Chenks suggestion.

Well I've tried two different cables and get the same problem. How do I check my VGA settings?
Thanks for the help.
well if it's an nVidia card.. then there is usually a "tv" option in the graphics options.
