Welcome to another product update !

The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed a number plastered on the front page of our site. Well, even those who are not eagle-eyed, as you can hardly miss it! For the sake of confirming the hype, yes, this is a countdown in days. We’re going to launch something pretty new and cool, so please do stay tuned for that – more info to come !

Available for pre-order and due to arrive in a few weeks time is the HFX (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/mCubed_HFX_Passive_HTPC.html), a completely silent HTPC case designed by mCubed Tech and produced by Silverstone. This is a serious bit of kit (you can tell from the weight) and is designed to house a full ATX PC and can cool the CPU passively with an optional heatpipe kit. Somewhat more compact are the Hoojum 3 ITX (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Kustom_PCs_Shop_MiniITX___Flex_Cases_6.html) and Hoojum 5 cases (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Hoojum_Cubit_Cases.html). The latter are cases designed to house an existing set of Shuttle components, and are certainly a great way of getting your small form factor system noticed !

We’ve expanded our range of power supplies (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Kustom_PCs_Shop_Power_Supplies_ATX_7.html) once again, with a low cost 400w model from Akasa (which doesn’t skimp on features, it supports 20/24pin ATX, SATA and PCI-E connections) and the much requested Seasonic S12 range.

ACRyan bring us yet more tasty modding bits – this month we have a new range of UV SATA drive cables (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Kustom_PCs_Shop_Serial_ATA_91.html) in a variety of colours and lengths (20cm-100cm). 24pin ATX Connection blocks (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Power_Supply_Molex.html) are now available in various colours so that newer PSUs don’t need to be spoiled by that ugly white connector ! PCI-E connectors will arrive next week, allowing the finishing touch for a colour-coded PSU mod in your system. MeshX is another new ACRyan product line, and it’s available in the form of a fan grill (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Grills_-_MeshX.html)or a large sheet (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Kustom_PCs_Shop_Trim___Edgings_64.html) for you to integrate into your own modding products. We love mesh – it’s a great way to improve both the cosmetics and cooling properties of your PC as meshed grill in place of solid metal greatly improves the ability of your components to receive fresh air. The MORF+ kits (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Modding_Kits.html) are a cost effective way to get your PSU colour coded – including braiding, heatshrink, colour coded plugs and a set of plug removal tools it’s literally everything you need to improve the look of your PSU at a great price ! Lastly from ACRyan – cathode extension cables (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Kustom_PCs_Shop_Cathode_Lights_11.html). Not really much more we can say about them, but they’re great if your cathode cables are just too short to allow you to hide the inverter out of the way ! If you’re assembling your own PSU cabling, you’ll safe a lot of time with our molex crimp tools (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1993.html) – these ensure that pins are securely fastened on your cables and not squashed!

Products that light up and flash are always high on our wish lists, and Mashie Design’s MDVA (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2267.html) does not disappoint. It’s not going to make your computer faster or more functional, but it does look so very cool – it’s a circular spectrum analyser that can be installed in two drive bays in front of your PC. If audio terms are not your thing, then in short this device flashes to the music played from your PC. Check the videos to see it in action !

Do you have a Lian Li case and wish you had waited for the new ‘Plus’ models? Fear not, as we now have all the parts to convert your existing case with the updated cooling spec. BS01 card blowers (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2808.html) and AD01 / AD02 (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Kustom_PCs_Shop_Ducting___Fan_Brackets_27.html) rear ducts are all now in stock. We’ve had a few requests for 5”1/4 to 3”1/2 bay adapters to be provided in black aluminium finish (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2917.html), so these are in stock now too !

Some new CPU coolers grace our site this month … the Scythe Ninja (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2683.html) is a passive cooler designed for modern CPUs. Providing your system has some airflow already running through it then this heatsink does not require a fan to keep the CPU within safe operating temperatures ! Akasa’s EVO120 (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2612.html) also uses similar heatpipe technology but includes a speed adjustable 120mm fan allowing for quiet operation or ‘reasonably quiet’ operation with fantastic cooling performance. The Vapochill Micro is another twist on a similar theme, but by using a larger evaporation area is gives great performance despite it’s smaller overall dimensions. It’s available in three guises – Silent (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2665.html) , High End (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2663.html) and Extreme (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2664.html). All of these coolers include heatsink compound but if you’re looking for an alternative then consider Arctic Ceramique (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3705.html). While cooling performance is not quite as good as Arctic Silver, it’s cheaper and does not have electrically conductive properties so is safer to use.

AcoustiProducts DustProof fans are designed to be quiet and stay quiet – and they’re now available in 60mm (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2507.html) and 70mm (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2508.html) sizes too ! Ideal for older CPU coolers with smaller fan fittings. If you’re installing multiple quiet fans in your system then Nexus’ Anti-Vibration Kit (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2369.html) is a great value box of assorted fan mounts and other trick bits such as rubber feet to help lower overall vibration (and therefore noise) levels from your PC. mCubed’s (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3856.html)VerticalSilence (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3856.html) Hard Drive Bay is designed to achieve the same thing for your hard disk. Not only does it reduce operational noise it actually will assist your drive in running cooler than it would exposed in most regular chassis.

Also from mCubed is the FanAmp (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3750.html) – a versatile gizmo that uses a motherboard 12v header and scales the output from 0-12v instead of the usual 7-12v. This means that fan control software such as Speedfan can now turn the fan off entirely if required. It also has a temperature sensor so can be set to enable full fan speed if a certain temperature is reached. Reducing noise is also the aim of Thermaltake’s Schooner (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2837.html) graphics card heatsink. Through having an exposed copper heatsink located on the outside of the computer case, this actually helps reduce operating temperature of the card as well as completely eliminating fan noise.

Samsung’s latest P120 200Gb (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_6245.html) drives are available now – boasting minimum noise but slightly higher capacity than the previous P80 range. More sizes will be available shortly ! Also in stock now are the Club3D 7800GTX PCI-E (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_5335.html) graphics cards, and stock levels are plentiful so don’t hesitate if you’re looking for the ultimate graphics card performance right away. At the other end of the scale, we’ve reintroduced PCI graphics cards (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/PCI.html) to our range – just when you thought they were gone, they’re back again… we’re still asked for these occasionally, so there’s a new section for them !

Viewsonic’s latest 17” and 19” monitors (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Desktop_Monitors.html) with just 4ms response time are available now. It used to be said that 20ms or less was ‘adequate’ for playing games, so at just 4ms pixel response these screens are sure to be the ideal choice for those playing fast action games ! Backlit keyboards are becoming another expanding area, and we have two new Keysonic keyboards in the range – the ACK500HL (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3028.html)with black keys and a built in USB hub, plus the ACK720EL (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3029.html) which has an aluminium casing and clear keys. Another remote control alternative is the Trust 5100 (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_5449.html), which is a slim ‘flat’ remote for controlling general operations and audio functionality on your Home Theatre PC.

Last up – laptop coolers (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Laptop_Cooling.html) are certainly a functional and useful addition to a desktop replacement laptop… but the iBreeze from MacMice is certainly the most funky looking one we’ve seen yet. Produced in clear acrylic it appears that your laptop is hovering above the desk. And the two in-built fans mean that your laptop keeps cool, while looking cool. A stroke of genius !
