where from..

Dell direct, other places sell them for less but with a reduced warranty, i.e. 1 year rather than 3.

I have one, not from dell, with 3 year onsite warranty. I paid 420. It was from someone who's buying them in bulk as a business user from the UK (not US) and selling with a markup, but cheaper than elsewhere. Mine still had it's shipping stickers on it from dell, and had been purchased days before I got it. Had no problems, is a lovely screen and far better value than the apple cinema 20 (same lg lcd, less inputs/options)

i'm sure i know where you mean taz. your right, saving £60 isn't worth loosing 2 years warrantee.
flid, are you talking about a chap on ebay? he's the cheapest i can find so far. the 2405 is £660, practically £200 cheaper than dell direct.

are we allowed to mention things like ebay on here? If so, yes. I emailed quite a few people selling on ebay, most were dodgy (ie bought from the US, ships from the us, bought from uk but warranty through them not dell direct etc). This guy however was great, i paid with paypal the day i won the auction and i received it the following day.

the rule is generally that you can post ebay links if it's not your sale, and if kustom don't sell the same item. there is no need to post a link in this instance, unless your not talking about ericbunny. :)

i'm very very tempted right now.

An alternative is the Philips 200W6CS, spec wise it's the same as the Dell as it uses the same LG/Philip's panel ;)

no, actually i was talking about the ebay account of this chap:

I haven't used the bigger version of it, but 20inch really is nice to work with for general stuff. Can see the point of bigger for CAD or artwork, but for general bumming about 20 inches is lovely. At work I use a 14 inch tft, it feels like a childs toy.

there's also aria, who sell them about that with 1 year warranty. Every now and then (about once a month) they have some in their super special section. The other weekend they had some for 365inc vat. Glad i have onsite warranty thou, I have used it for monitors in the past. One chap i emailed on ebay said that if there was a fault i had to send it to him (at my expense) and he'd fix it himself. Having had lardlords in the past who come and fix things themselves with masking tape that they should have had professionals do I wasn't overly keen!

yaeh i know of aria, but like i mentioned, i'd rather have the warrantee from dell. i hear that if for any reason over the 3 years your not happy with something, you can ring up and they'll send another one, no questions asked.

i'd dismissed the phillips early on because it's of it's chunky casing and integrated speakers. i believe samsung also have a similar screen out but it's not up to the dell's standards.
i was going to get the 20" model but i think i've decided on the 24". i fancy having a screen that will display full 1080i resolutions without scaling and price differences between the 2 make the 2405 rather good value (now £639 delivered)

don't suppose i'll get it cheaper than that but if anyone comes across anything like dell coupons, post it up.

i'm trying to work out whether i would pay 200 more for the 24 inch. The answer's probably yes, as my original budget was about that, and I was going to get a 26inch lcd that did 1280x768. The reason I didn't was i wanted decent resolution, then found the 20 inch for cheap, the best price i saw on 24 inch was about 800. In hindsight thou, i do like 20 inch as desktop monitor. It felt huge at first but no seems about right. I used to sit about 30 cm from the screen, always leaning forward whilst playing games. Now i can sit right back in my chair and still enjoy things.
