View Full Version : Good quality earbuds
Just bought some Sennheiser MX500s and have to say that it was a bad buy. Firstly, the unit was faulty and on top of that, they are poor quality for £20.
I am now looking for some good quality headphones that keep the music in and the noise out. Don't want to spend an absolute fortune, but will consider most things. I'm hoping that while deciding which ones to get, I can decide whether to opt for an iPod Shuffle or one of the new Sony 1GB models ^^;; .
Any help appreciated.

I'm not really up on earphones, but for mp3 players- have you considered iRiver?
Not brand loyalty on my part, but I was considering an iPod just after my MD player died. I bought a 20GB iRiver iH120 and have never looked back. Superb player. Am upgrading to an H320 which, with a firmware upgrade, can play videos too!
Their Flash-players may be worth a look.
(Feldman's mp3 diatribe ends....
here) :)
Well, I have the H320 at the moment and it's just too bulky for what I want. I also don't need all my music and more with me.
The video bit is nifty though if you actually plan on using it, but for me, it's just something I don't use.
Well, if you should ever think of selling it... ;)

I have these Sony ones and I have not been disapointed at all.
£25 and money well spent IMO:

I use Sony MDR-EX71SL in combination with a 20gb ipod and find them great to use as very comfortable and the sound is great. I think you can get them for about £30.

I think they're the same as mine above. I use mine with my ipod too - even on my PC (before I had my Zalmon 5.1's) they performed really well and had great quality sound :D
having been through 3 pairs of sony mdr-ex70's and 71's, i bought a pair of shure e2cs. around 50 quid a pop on ebay, the sound and build quality compared to the sonys is amazing.
i wouldnt buy another pair of sonys, in normal use they just dont last much longer than 9 months or so.
I have got through one pair of Sony's already but that's because I severe the cable in the door of a taxi.
iPod Shuffle mate, absolutely excellent clarity from the apple bud earphones. it's small, you never need to buy a battery. it weighs next to nothing, and it's just plain cool
i have the 1GB version and it's worth every penny of £99.01 from apple. The bass is punchy and nice and the trebble is clear and doesn't do the gay fade out when the bass cuts in :) i can't fault it.
My 2 penny's worth

i have gonne through about 4 pairs of sony, panasonic and similar earphones, only the £4 ones, but im reluctant to spend on something that breaks... one ear goes crackly, or the cable comes apart near the earphone...
poor tbh...
still havent found any reliabl ones for around £5 max... not THAT bothered about sound, so long as theyre reasonable tbh...
JB, once you hear a crystal sound you won't want anything less - it becomes an addiction like overclocking...
Thats why there are all those strange audiophiles people! :D
I use MOS headphones, but try not to - as I prefer the sound from my speaker setup. I find headphones irritate me.

I just used a random chef pic, once my rig will be done (next week) a pic of that is going in... maybe a gif with cycling images
Bang and olufsen's A8 earphones are superb. Excellent ergonomics (adjustable to fit your ear), really comfortable and great sound quality. They do retail at around £80 but they are worth every penny in my opinion.Look here! (http://www.beoworld.co.uk/earphones.htm)
