But does anyone have any real problems though?

James

Graeme*Kustom*
28-04-2001, 23:47
nope anyone who`s had a problem got it sorted by me over the phone today :)

JADS
28-04-2001, 23:51
Well thats helpful. Oh if anyone has any problems with Windows ME then the problem is Windows ME. Truly dire operating system that MS has stopped producing!

Windows XP is nice, :D

James

XP is a pile of crap :)

Maxi
29-04-2001, 23:21
I agree

Good

.::Maxi has passed the sanity test!

JADS

Have you used it?

Windows XP is anything other than a pile of crap. It is stable, supports multiple users and it runs your old applications.

Ok the product activation is annoying, but that can be bypassed relatively easily. And at least in its beta stage most of the horror stories they are putting foward aren't there.

In total Windows XP is the best OS MS has ever produced, :)

James

[TD]Domipheus
29-04-2001, 23:48
yes i have used it, i installed it for 1 day before i removed it again, same with winME.

i mean, they have make the MP3 codec decode the sound in crap quality so that it promotes M$'s new standard.

:o

The product activator takes a snapshot of your pc - I do not like that idea, there is lots of sensitive material on this comp for my dads company.

This snapshot can cause problems, there have been cases of the OS failing to work any more if you upgrade or change a component.

And i would have a simple, not so memory-hungry UI more than the memory-gorging new 'Luna' interface andy day.

JADS
29-04-2001, 23:56
We are using Beta 2462 here and haven't experienced any of the problems.

MP3 play back is absolutely fine, that is merely a myth. Mind you if you do insist on using Windows Media player or the like then what do you expect? Winamp or Sonique are the only way to go, :)

I'm uncomfortable with the idea of product activation, so here at uni we simply bypass it. Unlimited use of Windows XP and we never have to communicate with MS. The response from beta testers the world over and surveys has been so negative that MS may be forced to remove this.

The actual OS is extremely fast from what I can tell, certainly much better at dealing with resources than the 9x kernel series. Which isn't surprsing as this is a NT based OS. In a while you will come to like that Luna UI, because although MS default one is a bit crap you will be able to design much lighter ones. Anyway is memory such a worry these days? I run 320MB.

James

Integrated kernel actually :P

Maxi
30-04-2001, 00:12
face it, XP sucks big time, i ran it for 30min then burned the disc

JADS

People here would disagree with you and we are computer science students...

James

[TD]Domipheus
30-04-2001, 00:28
Well i am a 16 with his own company so :P

JADS
30-04-2001, 00:38
Well I'm 19 and your senior,, respect your elders, ;)!

Use it for a while without product activation and XP kicks ass.

James

Graeme*Kustom*
30-04-2001, 00:41
whats your company?

JADS
30-04-2001, 00:48
That is an interesting point. What company does a 16 year old run?

James

Graeme*Kustom*
30-04-2001, 01:49
Don`t underestimate it, age shouldn`t be a barrier in business :)

JADS
30-04-2001, 02:55
Nope, but generally it is. You're not worth anything to businesses until you come out of uni with a fairly decent degree.

James

Graeme*Kustom*
30-04-2001, 09:05
I don`t really have any proper qualifications, only a few from school... :) I`m good at what I do and that`s what counts!

JADS
30-04-2001, 09:25
Well you are doing something you enjoy, which is nice. Not everyone can be that lucky, :)!

James

JStormont :

:D

JADS
30-04-2001, 09:33
Not at this precise moment in time, we are in the final term and there is nothing to do excep exams. Those are in two weeks time for 10 days (all at 9.30am). So at the moment I'm just looking for something to keep me occupied between revision, ;)!

James

[TD]Domipheus

Actually Graeme, Im doing probably the same thing you were doing before Kustom, making and selling Custom made PC's to the spec of the customer.

Actually do some web design too, got 3 sites going in design stage just now, the site for it is colsoft.co.uk (the links are all dodgy because of the webspace being recently upgraded, and me not realising some of my stuff was gone :/

Thing is, It is not a steady stream of income, but when a job comes i get my share :) - my friends hate me for it lol.

JADS
30-04-2001, 20:35
Very enterprising... you will go far, :)!

Hey all

Stormont! seen as u criticised me for posting a recommended site on the LAN section (which i still say was a mistake!) i am wondering what ure university classes have to do with trouble shooting PC's???

i hope i will receive an apology from u and if i don't i will judge u as a hypocrite!

thanx

in reply to jstormont, a degree isnt worth much to business, especially in IT.
most business would rather have a qual. that shows you understand their systems, eg a microsoft or novell qual.
Degrees just show that you can be taught to a certain level, not that you know anything relevant.

ross

So people keep saying  .

JADS
01-05-2001, 19:49
Hey up, :)

I can trouble shoot PCs with the best of them, have done for so many years I can usually guess with some accuracy. Mind you I really don't intend to do that with my life, :)

The degree is really so I can push on the higher level of management in the future. I will be simply passed over if I don't have it.

I am always attempting to increase my skills in computing, but it is equally important to be a balanced person if you ask me. I rarely (if at all) mention the word PC when around friends, :)

Think of it this way, if i need an extra cable, case, mobo, mouse etc.. quickly - i now know where to come instead of ordering it off the net and waiting 3 days for it :)

That is the kind of site i like, simple, and easy to use. Not with lots of 'takeingagestodownload' flash buttons etc...

Thanks. Thats what I aim for, nice but simple, fast but pretty :-).

JADS

I aim for simplicity when designing sites. Even if it means making it more complex to make it simpler.
